What could be better than staying in an old English pub? Not much! Room was spotless & comfortable. Food was delicious. We missed breakfast on our first day due to being a little tipsy the night before ( because we were staying in a pub!). Very happy we made breakfast on day two!
Unpleasant Front of House

I am not one to make reviews, especially bad ones. But I felt I needed too on this occasion, I have looked through previous reviews on this place and see I’m not the first to air my views on this matter, I felt that others and if there is any higher management of the establishment that they should be made aware of this. We had the most unpleasant, unwelcoming experience we’ve ever encountered. The place it’s self and the food we had no complaints about but the small grey haired man is the most unfriendly, rude and obnoxious person we have ever encountered and it ruined our whole experience here. This man should not be working in hospitality or front of house, we asked him questions about the menu, building and surrounding area to which he totally blanked and ignored us, or replied with sharp one word responses, it was very unpleasant. He was inattentive and constantly on his phone. When asking where the toilet were he could barely show us and just grunted at us. Such a shame because everything else was pleasant, but because of this man we will not be returning. I would advise on keeping this chap away from future customers if you want to keep or gain any.

Too many small issues

It pains me to leave a 2 star review, but I cannot justify higher. Issues that ‘ve since found in reviews from 2019 are still not fixed - Loose tiles on the bathroom floor and toilet roll holder coming off the wall. On top of this the first issue with the room was the lock not working correctly. This was at least swiftly fixed so the door locked, but it was still difficult locking and unlocking the door during the stay! The first visit to the ensuite was not pleasant as there was a 'floater' in the toilet, which suggests that it had not been cleaned properly after the previous guest had stayed otherwise this would have been picked up on! The room itself was very small... not even room for a wardrobe or proper closet. It was a struggle getting round the bed on two sides! The hotel did have a residents entrance and although this was open on the way out, on returning it had been shut and the lock was broken so you could not use it. Breakfast was so so ... the choice of fruit juice, cereal, toast and cooked breakfast was ok for me, but the extent of a cooked breakfast to just bacon, sausage, fried egg and tomato was very limited ...no option for baked beans/hash browns, mushrooms/black pudding/fried bread. On top of this the over riding taste from the breakfast was the oil the eggs were cooked in which was not very pleasant! All staff encountered were very nice it has to be said, a fan was left in the room to assist cooling on the hottest day of the year which was good
Excellent 2 night stay

We stayed at the Jug and Glass for two nights in June. We had a very good, sizeable room, tastefully furnished, and the food was excellent. Everyone was very friendly and made us welcome. The area is good for walking and is close to Buxton, and not far from the Bakewell area. Recommended.
