Large rooms and walkable location
I took my son here as part of a larger road trip for MEA. We enjoyed the location as it was close to several areas we were looking forward to explore. The hotel had large rooms and wide hallways. The area was walkable to nearby restaurants. Parking was free across the street (but tight spaces). We enjoyed looking at the murals on the buildings surrounding the hotel.
Worth a stay...
It was our first time in Dubuque, IA. We definitely enjoyed our stay here. The pool and hot tub were both a lot of fun. The hotel itself is a nice historic building. It is in a great location right in the middle of the city. Very convenient for all of the nearby attractions.
Historic hotel, friendly staff
The hotel has been restored, while maintaining its historic spirit. There are interesting photos and historic materials throughout the building. All the staff we talked to were friendly and helpful. The room was clean, and had nice blackout curtains. The hotel is in a quaint part of town, with numerous eateries and shops nearby. We chose it because we were going to the National Mississippi River Museum the next morning, and it was a three-minute drive to the museum. The one weird thing: The thermostat has a label on it with directions for use, but we couldn't get it to work. Called the front desk and were told that they could set if from there, and what temp did we want? It started heating up within a minute, but it was a bit frustrating having the thermostat going haywire.
Hello customer service?
Monday spa day figured it won’t be busy AND IT Was NOT! We had spa appointments at 3:30 would have been really nice to check in early to be able to leave our bags and enjoy the spa. They are running on a skeleton crew so NO MORE CUSTOMER SERVICE they would rather be afraid than to offer it. The receptionist was very nice so I don’t blame her I blame the management. Stop using Covid as an excuse for the lack of customer service when some people are trying to help keep business alive. We come a couple times a year as we like the historical hotel but think those days wil l be in the past. The restaurant is not up to par and they close the bar at 2:00 so we had to sit in our car for an hour. Ruined my visit.
OUTSTANDING In Many Ways!!!
My daughter and I just returned from a weekend at the Julien. All employees were incredibly warm and welcoming. Our room, again, was perfect!!! VERY clean. Beds were great as were the pillows. A big shout out to a couple of your employees: The first gentleman we met was a night shift employee (don’t know his name) but he said he was employed there for 14? years that graciously filled us in on the history of the Julien - fascinating!! Next employee was the maid who immediately got an extra roll of toilet paper when we requested it. Finally (think her name was Stacie) working the reservation desk helped me out big time!! My daughter (as I did) LOVED the robes available!!! She practically lived in it!! Soooo when she was packing our car for our return trip home I called the front desk and asked for a favor. Wanted to purchase a robe as a surprise for my daughter (I did) and then I asked her if she could possibly put it in a box and with a ribbon on it. Also asked her to put a note on it that read: from Uncle Al. She did all that and with a smile!! Can’t thank her enough! PS: “Uncle Al” referenced (of course) Capone. My daughter could not have been more thrilled!! Best “mom-daughter” weekend EVER!!!!
