Filthy hotel
They are not proving any safety precautions with COVID. We were put in a room with chewed gum in the wastebasket from previous guest. The full length mirror in the entrance of the room was covered with an unknown substance. The toilet was absolutely disgusting, covered in hair and waste. The tub was not cleaned and had black sticky substance on it. The microwave buttons were smeared with food. The heater/ ac unit was moldy. When we complained to the desk staff, we were moved to another room. That room was not much better. I must say the lady at the front desk was very sympathetic and did her best.
Descent place
My review is late, but I stayed here from Sept to mid Oct 2019 for work. The Place looked nice and I had no problems checking in and the lady (forgot her name) that worked until late afternoon or evening was very helpful. The room looked clean and nice. I asked for it to be cleaned on Mondays. The first time they did ok. It wasn't exceptional but acceptable. I first asked about the drain. It looked like a rat died in it and would back up. After 3 days of asking I grabbed a screw driver and Drano and did it myself. Otherwise I would have to take a very quick shower so I wasn't standing in the water. The next week they didn't clean my room. I asked on 3 seperate ocassions and nothing. I finally switched out my towels and they got it. It looks like they wiped everything with a dirty rag and they didn't even do the kitchen floor. My husband surprised me and sent flowers on our anniversary. He asked them to leave a note on my door (which he would gladly tip for) and they didn't do it. He had to tell me to go check when he called. The guy said he tried calling. I had been there a couple weeks and they knew I was there for work. Why would you call in the morning then not try again and just let them sit there all day? When my key quit working, instead of coming up to check it out, they let me run up and back 4xs with arms full of groceries trying to fix it. Breakfast was good and they served it early for us workers. The pot luck they served on Wed nights was all of their family that lived there and hard to get anything. The lady on days and the one I ocassionally saw on nights were awesome, but trying to get anything done that involed other workers was like pulling teeth. I guess the owner went to India and never came back. Oh and they let guests drink outside the front doors after getting off nights. One of which followed me up in the elevator all the way to my room hitting on me the whole time even though I said I was happily married. MIght not have happened if he wasn't drunk at 8a. I would probably stay again because the place was in good shape but stay tay at your own risk

I have been here since the end of December and all I can say is the housekeeping here is horrible. They don’t sweep the floors half the time, they have never cleaned the inside of the tub, don’t know how to use a toilet bowl brush either. There was something that had ran down the mirrored closet doors. It was there when I checked in. I mentioned it to the front desk, they had wrote down what all was wrong and still nothing. The last time I said something to the manager about it. All he said was I’m sorry about that. Still was not cleaned. I finally gave up and did it my self. Don’t get me wrong everyone is nice here, but the housekeepers are awful. The older one is kind of creepy too. He was standing in his doorway & stared at me all the way down the hall.
Great value
We needed a room for the night as we were traveling through Dubuque on the way to Chicago. The MainStay fit the bill as it was a very affordable price, and it was clean and easy to get to. There’s no doubt that it is a budget hotel, but we’re not talking two pillows, old blankets, and thin mattress. The amenities were comfortable and I really enjoyed my stay. There is also a kitchenette in most of the rooms with a flare dishes and a full sized refrigerator.
Very, very disappointed in Mainstay & Choice !!
Very, very disappointed in Mainstay & Choice !! My wife and I were planning a relaxing weekend getaway this past weekend Oct 12-13, 2019 in Galena Il, as we have done for every year for the past 15 years or so. It was the fall festival and we had to drive over 3 hours to get there from our home in Kenosha. The fair was great and so was the quaint shopping in downtown Galena. After a fairly long day, it was time to check into our Mainstay Suite in Dubuque, Iowa which we had booked last December 2018. This was the first time we had tried this particular hotel. It was located an additional 20 or so minutes away from home, but the town did offer some interesting sightseeing. To our surprise and dismay, when we went to check in at the hotel, we ran into the most rude hotel workers that we have ever met and we are pretty avid travelers, having been in hotels all over the world. The desk clerk proceeded to tell us that the hotel decided to cancel our reservation, even though we had written confirmation with a reserved reservation status and that our room had been given away. When we complained as to why we weren't notified that there was a problem, or at the very least been contacted that our room was cancelled prior to our making the long trek (on a weekend where there were no nearby hotels with vacancies, and those further away charging exorbitant prices), the woman at the front desk told us that we would have only been contacted if we had made the reservation directly with the hotel and not online. When I showed here the date we called the hotel directly and the person at the hotel to whom we spoke, the story changed. The problem as explained was that the credit card we used was denied, which was expressed to everyone within ear shot in the lobby. We figured out what happened and explained that the credit card company just recently issued a new card, as all credit card companies do from time to time, which would have a new expiration date. The card number stayed the same and only the date of expiration changed. We kept thinking we were in an episode of "Seinfeld" where they were in a similar position and the host explained "so you can take a reservation and confirm it, you just cannot keep the reservation. " We learned that the hotel had run our card before our arrival (which we found highly unusual) and not when we arrived, with the hotel then deciding to arbitrarily cancel our reservation without even bothering to contact us (our phone number as well as email address was on file at the hotel)! Could the personnel learn to be courteous? It was obvious the hotel personnel wanted to punish us for a new credit card expiration date and were not going to lift a finger to help in this situation. This was probably done because we had a reasonable rate for the night and the going rate had evidently pushed upwards of our rate making it more profitable to give the room to someone else. We asked for the manager and the hotel clerk texted her. The response from the manager via text was apparently quick and would not be shared with us, other than to say the manager was unavailable until the following Monday. This, of course, would be too late to resolve the current situation. The desk clerk was still abrupt and adamant that the hotel would not do anything to help us. This, in our minds, confirms there was something behind our cancellation and the others taking our room at higher rates. We walked next door to "Country Inn and Suites" and they were as nice and helpful as could be. Although they were booked, they helped us to locate another hotel (which was another 30 minutes away from home), offered us water, and a map giving us directions to this hotel that was even further away. The individuals at Country Inn were also very surprised that our reservation was cancelled at Mainstay without notification, as well. As mentioned before, Mainstay can apparently take a reservation but just cannot keep it. As of now, I will not stay at another "Choice Hotel " or "Mainstay Hotel". Due to this fiasco, we ended up driving back home that night (another 3.5 hours and I am 68 years old)! We are truly appalled at how things were handled and how we were treated. We do hope we receive a response from corporate and measures are taken so that other travelers do not have to have their vacations soured by disrespectful and uncaring staff. We also hope that your hotel chains change their policy about providing customer service rather than being only out for the maximum dollars they can get for a room.
