Staff verbally assulted customer for not wearing a mask

As a soon to be Titanium rewards member I am not one who likes to give bad reviews to Marriott hotels but I feel like I must step up and address an issue that occurred Saturday evening around 7 pm (October 23). What I saw was the hotel representative verbally assault a couple over the husband not having a mask on. From what I over heard and saw, the couple was getting ready to sit at the hotel bar for a drink before going to a show at DPAC. The man who came running up from the hotel desk behind them was the most obnoxious belligerent Marriott employee I ever could imagine! I was shocked by the verbal assault that took place and was embarrassed to be a Platinum Marriott representative. There are a lot of Marriott within the Dirham area - I will never spend another nickel at this Aloft or any other Aloft!
Lovin’ the downtown feeling!

The location was perfectly suited to experience downtown Durham and a convenient drive to explore the Duke campus. The room was quiet and the bed and pillows were comfortable. Another review mentioned the train noise, I did hear it one out of the nights in our three night stay, but it was not the event portrayed previously. The highlight of our stay was an extremely helpful young man at the welcome desk named Jonathon. He went out of his way to help us find late night dessert and other amazing spots like Pressed and M Sushi! He was a very conscientious employee and was readily available at check in, providing parking garage tidbits and additional thoughtful insight all three nights of our stay. The breakfasts were delicious and prepared to order - Gluten Free! The in house bar was very inviting and we left for our Wyoming home ready to come back for another visit!
Nice place and close to everything

Stayed 2 nights so we could bike the American tobacco trail and enjoy a baseball game. This hotel is right in the heart of what you might want to do in downtown…ball game, tobacco campus area, Main Street shopping and tons of restaurants. Staff super friendly and helpful. Nothing special about the room except the water pressure is terrible and I hate soft pillows but we had a good view of the area. Just know that there are trains that go by and there is always one or two around 630am. Horn is loud as they are crossing a few traffic areas. Coffee (not decaf) free and they have other bagels, etc. for purchase.
The location says it all — great walking access to the downtown, the ball park, and a nice walking and running trail.

This was a very good one-night stay. Nothing special about the room — but, clean and comfortable. Self-parking next door at an indoor garage. The location was great. I was disappointed by the lack of on-site bar and dining options. They are apparently “looking for a new chef.” If you are a runner there is a very nice path about 0.3 mile away. Front desk staff very friendly.
Excellent location and well-run property

A great choice for a downtown Durham stay. We arrived on a very quiet Friday evening (no baseball game or CPAC events) with our dog and were promptly checked in by a friendly and efficient receptionist. We had a clean, comfortable room on the 'quiet' end of the building (closer to the Durham Bulls stadium, farther away from the train track), with a pleasant view of the setting sun over the Lucky Strike smoke stack. All staff members we encountered were cordial and professional, including the great bartender who set our pup up with a bowl of fresh water (there's outside seating adjacent to the bar). This hotel is ideal for people with pups - lots of green space outside. It's across from the historic tobacco district which looks like a really interesting revitalization project albeit dead as a doornail this particular Friday evening. We had been tossing up between staying at the Aloft and other hotels more in 'downtown' proper and are glad we made this choice due to the location - more green/interesting architecture, less concrete (and still only 5 mins walk from downtown). A couple of notes regarding other reviews' comments: The hallways are dark, but in a nice cocoonish way (very on-brand for Aloft), no issues whatsoever with visibility, cleanliness, odor, etc. The parking building access is absolutely fine - people sure have a lot to complain about if they are grousing about having to walk 20 paces outside from the parking building to the hotel lobby. The light switch set up is kind of weird though - we couldn't find any way to set up an effective night light for the bathroom which is pretty important for we middle-age folk. Oh - the bed was fabulously comfortable. Now we need to find out what mattress this hotel (or Aloft) uses.
