Hits most of the notes but missed is a very important areas
I was pretty happy with my stay this hotel but there were a few things about it that kept from from being from being great. First, I will start with the positive things. The mobile check in and digital key is an awesome feature of this hotel. With COVID-19, it is best to avoid interaction with staff and those features allow for that. Once in the room, the suite was incredibly spacious. The bed was very comfortable and the water pressure in the shower was very nice. Additionally, the staff is very friendly and accommodating (more on that later). The facility was very well maintained. I put it in the 25-30 year range. Finally, I felt completely safe. That is a baseline, albeit important part of any lodging experience. Now for the aspects of this stay that were less than great. The premium internet was NOT a premium speed. I was pulling about 3 Mbps. I don't recommend paying 12.95 for that. I was able to use the 5G connection on my iPhone and received 40 Mbps and that was free for me. Thankfully, the front desk staff was very able to remove it from my invoice. Secondly, and if anybody reads other reviews I have posted, this is a focus of mine. There is a serious lack of bedside power outlets. Given that the current year is 2021 and this is a relatively high end hotel, this is pretty unforgivable. I personally travel with an iPhone, iPad, 2 laptops, and an Apple Watch. I imagine most people that stay here travel with many of the same devices. This needs to be addressed. In summary, this was a decent place to stay. There are ways this hotel could be improved (nothing is perfect) but all in all, not a bad place to be.
Relaxing setting, beautiful view
I have stayed at this hotel twice, and both times were great. The views from my room were spectacular, especially at sunrise and sunset, and there is a nice walking loop around a small lake. The staff were friendly, attentive, and efficient. The room service was quick, hot, and very reasonably priced. We are Hilton Gold which means free breakfast, even now with COVID. We had eggs benedict with breakfast potatoes, and eggwhite veggie omelette. For dinner room service we had a Caesar salad, Thai chili wings, and a ribeye steak, and again all were delicious with large portions. I will definitely stay at this hotel every time I am in the RTP area from now on.
Have Courage and Be Kind
The DoubleTree, known for that amazing cookie is where you expect to find affordable luxury. Keep hope alive. With the slowdown of the economy, the bar has to be lowered a bit. Staffing is reduced and corners are being cut to keep the hotel industry afloat. Having said that, the Doubletree on Meridian Pkwy has enough comfort for the price but there are some definite issues with some rooms. Our first room had no key. 3 unsuccessful keys later we were moved to a new room. Room number 2 smelled of old smoke and had stained furniture. Room number 3 smelled fresh and looked clean. There were some issues with the bathroom (outlet didn’t work and you could tell the bathroom had most likely flooded. I’m pretty sure that was mold on the ceiling). BUT! The room was super comfy, very roomy and we had a great view of the lake. The lake has a trail that winds around some great fountains and scenery. The trail is bit noisy due to location near interstate, but it was a relaxing stroll and plenty of seating. When COVID allows, they have a beautiful indoor/outdoor pool, play area and tennis court. The STAFF was amazing. They were the only thing helping me keep my sanity while trying to get into a room at 9 pm. Doc was super sweet and offered to buy us breakfast to make ammends for all the room changing we had to do. We would stay at the DT again. For the price, the final room was clean and comfy. The lake was beautiful and the staff were extremely courteous. Best of all, it is close to a lot of great eateries and the most charming mall we have ever seen. So, have patience and courage to trust that things will get back to normal. In the mean time, be kind to the staff....they are there to help you and they do it with smiles and infinite graciousness.
Hilton Doubletree Suites Durham Raleigh exceeds expectations w/service, amenities, and desk agents that “raises the bar”
I work in the industry of hospitality and have a relative that is a PhD in hospitality and tourism at the university level in Virginia and I am well familiar with the limitations of products amenities in an ever changing hospitality market even before the current pandemic of Covid19. But, I am well pleased with the exceptional professionalism and genuine ‘can do’ attitude the front desk agents ‘Jai and Shay exemplified at the Doubletree Suites in Durham, NC. It was a local university ‘game weekend where Duke and NCCU (I am an alumni of both) were heavily represented with high attendance and foot traffic in the hotel. I had a situation where I needed friends in the clergy from Fayetville celebrating a birthday to “stay” at an area hotel and easily felt reassured, recommending the property I have stayed at repeatedly when family has visited from out of town. The Hilton Doubletree Suites offers a lake view king suite that is a welcome solace from the pervasive political & pandemic “inundation” we now face, daily. To have a sealed, impeccably clean, suite standardized with a refrigerator, microwave, sofa bed and “yes” Keurig coffee machine—-represent the significant ‘extras that ‘soothe’ longtime Hilton Diamond travel ‘warriors’ like myself. Water on demand, a breakfast and dinner entree “menu” albeit ‘select, bar, and plenty of aesthetically pleasing lobby and common area “walk space” now at Phase2.5 has offered an excellent, satisfying, and hygienic “mental” reassurance that “things” in the place of ‘food’ for the soul, are indeed, making strides to returning to a sense of travel w/enjoyment!! Sure, we are all varying “travel-types” as I have severe allergies to certain cleaning fragrances and ‘smoke products of ANY kind and yet I am traveling to a “HOTEL” so it is most unfair to EXPECT the hotel to police “air quality” in its vents & hallways anymore than it can “enforce” non compliant mask attendees or overzealous party folks celebrating a local collegiate victory—-they have policy in place but the true example is the exemplary STAFF and how they handle these adversities given the task to provide satisfaction to not some but ALL of their patrons—-EQUALLY!! To that end, it is the personable, seasoned, skilled, friendly professional—-MsJai and MsShay!! They are the ‘jeweled’ sentinels of the industry AND they know the business and ‘assist to ‘Make It Right’ whenever and however they can!! In this ever changing industry of hospitality; it is truly the BEST that we can do!! Kudos to the property management of this brand for the enlisting of these individuals.
Super underwhelmed with this property
I got here at 11 am ~ I understand that’s incredibly early. Believe me, I get that, & you really don’t want to know what time *I* had to get up in order to be at the front desk at 11 am ~ so telling me prissily that “check in isn’t until 4 o’clock.” really isn’t the best way to start things off with me. The front desk attempted to blow me off by saying no king rooms were available (Give me a break. 7 stories & there’s not 1 king suite available?) & if I wanted to check in before 1 pm I’d need to pay an additional $25. We’re in the middle of a global pandemic, people. I’m pretty sure your hotel hasn’t run at full capacity since before February, & the company needs to be *happy* I booked 3 nights there, not give me an attitude. I’m pretty sure there was a king room available because one *was* given to me once I stood my ground & didn’t budge. Nicely, of course. Semi nicely. I’m also pretty sure I need that $25 refunded, because Hilton has no business asking for that when the hotel industry is literally flailing around for customers. Maybe those $25 charges are what’s keeping y’all going, who knows. Again, I get that 11 am is early. Your hotel’s simply not busy enough for it to have been *that much* of a hardship. You just thank me for my business & ask if I’d like a bottle of water to take to the room with me. The end. I’m sure the employees will be thrilled to know I won’t be returning.
