Recently we decided to visit an exhibition in Dusseldorf and booked Das Carls Hotel. We already stayed in this hotel 2 times before, were sure in the quality and therefore chose Non-refundable rate. Due to current Coronavirus situation the exhibition was cancelled, so I approached the hotel with the suggestion to refund at least some amount due to unforeseen circumstances. However, the hotel didn't agree to refund anything. I would like to share this experience with you, since I think that such attitude is unacceptable, especially under current circumstances when even airlines make refund and especially for repeated guests.

Great hotel, clean, quiet, breakfast is good, best thing is the location, you can walk to all the main attractions and the market square across the road is amazing, food, wine, gifts etc. Worth checking out.
Great location, but noisy!

Stayed here to go to the Christmas markets, great location for these and the Aldstadt, all within easy walking distance. The hotel is on Carls Platz which is the flower market so got a little bit noisy first thing with deliveries. Lots of really good eateries on the doorstep. Staff really friendly and really helpful. If you like tea in the morning you can request a kettle otherwise it’s a coffee machine. Bring your own mugs, they only have demi tasse cups! Also couldn’t find English Breakfast teabags anywhere in Dusseldorf so bring those too! Bathrooms a little tired and shower fiddly but these are minor complaints. All in all a great place to stay, would definitely recommend.
Great location and the best breakfast

When attending a large annual conference, we used to stay at the Carathotel which we booked a year in advance (just after each conference) until about 3 years ago two weeks before arriving we received an email from the Carathotel advising that they had closed and so our booking was cancelled. It was difficult to find an hotel at such short notice - but we managed. To find out what had happened, we went to the Carathotel location and discovered that it had changed ownership and the Carathotel simply cancelled all their reservations (out of spite) so the Das Carls hotel had to start from scratch. Last week we returned to stay at the Das Carl and were relieved to find that it was little changed and deservedly fully booked. The Carathotel was famous for its wide breakfast selections and we were delighted to find that there was no change and that the same excellent staff were still there. For an excellent location, and superb breakfast choose the Das Carls. We found the rooms spotless and comfortable. If you would like a larger room, ask for a one on the corner.
I've found my regular hotel for Dusseldorf...

I stay in Dusseldorf often for business, and I must say this is the best hotel I've stayed in yet. The location is perfect! It is just minutes from the old town, easily accessible for restaurants, shops, and the like, and also a few metres to the river. Despite being so central, it's readily accessible from the highways, and takes no time to arrive with driving in minimal traffic. There's a parking garage next door, and the hotel has special parking rates, which is perfect. The hotel is comfortable, with relatively spacious rooms, very fast internet, and decent amenities. I couldn't get my air conditioner to work, but opening a window did the trick. The bathroom was spacious, and most importantly, the shower was plenty big enough... not smaller than my shoe like in so many European hotels. Breakfast was good with lots of options. There's no bar or restaurant, but this is not necessary being so close to the Alt Stadt. It was a very pleasant stay, and I think now I have found my permanent hotel in Dusseldorf.
