More about the hotel
Not child friendly
On arrival was advised breakfast would be served in the room with a continental bag and can pick a hot item, choice of roll n sausage/back/egg or hash brown. The room was large and up to date decor, in the bathroom there was pre used soap and shower gels I do not think this is covid friendly all items should be disposable, there was no tissues either just an empty box with random hairs in it . That evening we went for dinner in the restaurant and Food itself was something I would not write home about. Later found that we were pillows short and bedside table lamp bulbs didn’t work. Called reception 5 times no answer left till the morning as wasn’t urgent Breakfast is NOT child friendly or allergy. My daughter has a nut allergy and the breakfast bags consisted of a pain au chocolate (no Ingredients on it) box of fruit and a Greek yoghurt muesli (containing nuts). The hot rolls were stone cold which you have to go downstairs and collect yourself. I asked reception as left if we can have alternative next day as my child is allergic to nuts and can the room be hoovered as we breakfast food were all over the floor. There were two chairs in the room resulting in one person sat on the floor. Anyway came back to beds not made and floor not hoovered so I made sure no nuts were left about. After a swim we were then told restaurant was closed this was at 5:50. We can order for our room and £6delivery charge or leave my kids alone in the room and go for it. (3 year old with adhd and 8year old). I had spoken to reception twice that day and not once was I advised restaurant would be closing. I would have fed them before returning. To top it all off every day I had to have my key reset. I won’t be returning here and will be advising all my friends and family to avoid this hotel. Pay a little more and stay at the Marriott or even go to the holiday inn better service and organisation.
RELAXING BREAK
Fantastic. The room was spacious, bed was super comfortable and big, on site parking a massive plus, all amenities within the bedroom were great. No complaints at all. Staff were efficient, friendly and informative. We would definitely stay again when in Edinburgh. We missed having the full breakfast and being able to use the spa - swimming pool was available.
Good Hotel Terrible Service
Hotel was in a nice quiet area opposite a large natural park area but miles from anything, especially places to eat. The room was spacious and the bathroom was clean. The Pool was very nice though booking was required due to Covid and numbers limited to 10 per hour. The 26 bus took 30 minutes to get to the city but it is clear that Edinburgh bus drivers are not happy in their work. Most were positively rude to visitors. The Hotel reception staff were even worse and seemed to go out of their way to make things difficult. The breakfasts were truly awful with the only true choice being take it or leave it. A "CRUSSH" bag of cold products, Orange Juice, Pan au chocolat, fruit and some type of oats with seeds did not leave you looking forward to the next morning when the next bag of the same turned up outside the door. And who would have thought that grapes were seasonal fruit in Scotland! There was the further option of placing an order the evening before for a roll with bacon, sausage or some other breakfast filling which in the 3 days spent there was never available for the time ordered and was so unappealing that they were deemed inedible. Other hotels were continuing to provide a cooked breakfast, this hotel seemed to go for the cheap option. Fortunately the city is still a great place to be and the locals are friendly.
Wrong choice!
I was under the impression that I had booked the hotel at Haymarket, hence reason for not taking the car and going by train. When we tried to register in, we were told that our booking was for the sister hotel at Murrayfield. Whilst disappointed at this, I thought, well Murrayfield isn't that far away. We werte told that it would 10 minutes or so by taxi. I immediately thought that Murrayfield would not take 10 minutes by car, but we got a taxi. It was actualy at least 15 minutes at acost of £12/50. Believe me, this hotel is no where near Murrayfield and afetr speaking to 2 other couples at this hotel, we all agreed that it is advertised as Murrayfield to boost bookings. Don't get caught out like I was. The room we had I can';t fault and the service from staff was good, not brilliant, but good enough. I will definitely not be returning and do not recommend this hotel.
Lovely stay
We stayed here for 3 nights and had a great time. Really good location for the city centre and the zoo, everything was really clean and very clearly set out given current circumstances and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Would definitely come back next time we’re in Scotland!
