Great food not so good stay

Reviewed 22 november, 2021

Really good food! But the room was shoddy and very noisy. Constant door banging and some sort of machine sound going off every hour all night. Honestly it wasn’t a good nights sleep. The bathroom toilet and basin was dirty upon arrival, the toilet roll holder was hanging off the wall, the shower door and tiles where dirty and the handles on the doors where loose. The floor was dusty and I wondered if house keeping had been rushed that day. The service in the restaurant was friendly but slow. But the food is really good. Sorry to leave a negative review but it’s not a cheap room and I expected a better standard to be honest.

Two days visit for birthday

Reviewed 17 october, 2021

My husband and I spent two nights here 12th-14th for my birthday and really enjoyed it. Small quirky hotel only 10 rooms. Lovely bar area and food was fab. Staff also lovely and friendly. Great atmosphere at dinner and evening. We would go back. Only negative for us was our room was on top floor and no lift was bit of a struggle carrying the case and room bit noisy at night as it overlooked an alleyway so would choose a different room next time.

Poor room, excellent team/staff.

Positives: Really lovely staff. Friendly, chatty, personable and professional. They ask how your day has been as if genuinely interested. Helpful, polite and excellent service. Couldn't fault. Beautiful bar/restaurant, could have sat watching cocktails being made all day! Good food, good breakfast, more than adequate choice. Big, comfortable bed, slept really well. A lot of people leaving bad reviews about the noise from the rooms. Didn't really bother us, yes we heard the bins/bottles/glass crashing, but it wasn't all night and certainly didn't stop us having a lie in. Great location. Negatives. The room was stiflingly hot. Thankfully a fan is provided. It was so hot in the room when we arrived that we had to turn the fan on full then go and sit in the bar for a while until the room had aired and cooled a bit. We had to leave the fan on every night. Air con needed. The room itself we found really bizarre in that there's no real functional furniture! The wardrobe shelves were full of wine, snacks, tea, kettle, coffee machine etc leaving one very dusty shelf that we could use. We cleaned the shelves ourselves. The coat hanger part of the wardrobe is so narrow that the coat hangers don't actually fit! Plus there's an ironing board in there taking up more space. My partner managed to ram a couple of items on hangars but it wasnt ideal by a long shot. There was then just two very narrow shelves and two bedside tables, not a drawer in sight! So we ended up with a very cluttered, messy room as there's literally nowhere to put anything! Not even a coat hook on the door! The room was tired, short and curly hair in sink, stained/marked sink and bath, tarnished tap, one lamp didn't work, the other gave up on day two. Didn't bother reporting as used main light. Cleaners obviously don't check. No bin in the room, just a tiny pedal bathroom bin. Don't understand the need for such a ridiculous amount of alcohol/drinks/mini bar taking up space. The stairs stunk of old grease/cooking fat. Understandable due to the location of the kitchen but needs a good bleach, odour neutraliser, something!! Made me actually gag once! It's a shame the room let's the hotel down when the staff are doing such a great job downstairs. I would stay again despite the room, my partner, however, said he wouldn't, purely because of the room.

First time in Edinburgh, first rate hotel!

A fantastic 3 night visit to Edinburgh for the first time, made extremely pleasant by a stay at Rabble Rooms. This hotel is outstanding and so are all the staff! They were all so attentive, friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The rooms are finished to a high standard and additional nice touches such as fruit on arrival, bath robes, hair dryer and even hair straighteners! We had drinks in the evening sat at the bar watching the staff work tirelessly making cocktails, it was amazing to watch. Sleep .... I don't normally sleep very well whilst away, but I had the best nights sleep in the biggest bed ever - so, so comfortable. Outside was a little noisy early morning due to bottle collections, but if you're staying in a pub you have to expect that. There is a menu for breakfast, not just a standard offering, and it was super delicious - highly recommend 'The Rabble', full English with must-have haggis. Food is not just thrown together, it's presented with care - the chefs are to be commended! We will definitely return to Edinburgh to see more of what we missed and certainly stay with these guys again! Thank you for a great stay.
