I only spent one night at this property, but it was a comfortable, well situated hotel in a good location. It is a bit pricey, but compared to the competition - there are a number of hotels in the immediate locale - the Sonesta has quite competitive rates for similar comfort. If you're not driving, there is a free bus (The EmeryGoRound) that will take you from the MacArthur BART station to the property. Or local buses serve the hotel well. It's right across from Bay Street, the main shopping artery of Emeryville and there's also a small mall next door with several other lower scale shopping options. The hotel has a modern, fresh lobby and dining area as you enter. Staff are fairly friendly and efficient. There is a pool and gym on the ground floor, but I didn't have time to check either out or use the cafe/bar. Rooms are large. The beds are comfortable and the linens clean and fresh. There is comfortable seating and a good working area. There's a fridge and coffee maker, but no microwave and no tea. A huge flatscreen TV dominates the working area, but I never turned it on. There is very reliable WIFI. One cool thing is that the bed is situated with the head lined up against the bathroom dividing wall, facing the windows, rather than the wall adjoining the next room. Maybe that's why there was little room to room noise, although there were some very inconsiderate guests in the hallways. The bathroom was a bit of a let down. There's no soap by the basin. Just liquid soap and shampoo in the shower/tub, locked to the wall. Towels were clean, but the bathroom floor was cracked and the tub stained. The water pressure was very good. You're close enough to SF to use Emeryville as a good alternative to the really high SF hotel rates. The Sonesta is a good comfortable option at high, but relatively affordable rates.

I stayed 8 nights at this hotel. I've never smoked a cigarette in my life, and they then charged me a $226.25 smoking fee. I called, asked and they said they had evidence... how could this happen if I NEVER smoked??? The Hotel acted in bad faith! and it's charging me a totally wrong and absurd fee

I have NEVER taken the time to write a review of a hotel before, but this time, I am making the time! I have stayed at the Sonesta in Emeryville, multiple times in 2021, in some cases on a weekly basis for nearby work. While the hotel was priced slightly higher than other comparable options, I considered it a fair deal given the close proximity to work and the fact the hotel is clean and safe. It has been several months since the last time I stayed, and 3/2/2022 is my first return of the new year. I'm not sure what happened, but my experience this time was frustrating and a product of complete indifference. Not only did they slap an unadvertised (or at least obscurely hidden) $19 parking fee for what used to be free parking, but this time even the check-in process was unpleasant and laced with a feeling that the desk clerk couldn't care less about anything. After eventually getting to my overpriced room, I remembered that this hotel does not supply its rooms with microwaves or refridgerators. Given I needed to heat the dinner I brought with me, I called the front desk to ask for a microwave (which I recalled having to do on prior stays). I waited....and waited...and waited--nothing. About 45 minutes later, I called the front desk and asked about progress on the microwave, because I was hungry after a long day and I was waiting to heat my dinner. The clerk assured me he'd made the request earlier for the microwave, and I should wait a few minutes longer. Ten minutes later, my room phone rang and it was the same "indifferent" desk clerk again. I almost couldn't believe what he said--my having already told nearly an hour after I'd made the request that I really would like the microwave. He told me I'd need to wait a bit longer, because the housekeeping staff member who would deliver the microwave was......wait for it.....wait for it........on lunch break, and would bring it once finished. WTF??? Ladies and gentlemen: Nice hotel, clean, and conveniently situated, to be sure. The reality though, is that there are other equally nice, equally clean options, some of which could result in a real savings--just as clean and of similar quality, and with free parking....and with rooms in which a microwave and refrigerator are standard in-room amenities. I implore you to look around. If not, I recommend factoring in a 70% increase to Sonesta's advertised price once fees, parking, and taxes are added.

The worst experience at a Hotel in my life

If I could give this hotel 0 stars I would. This was the worst experience of my life in a hotel with such promising reviews. After my 9 hour flight from FL to California I arrive to the hotel and check in and make my way up to my room. Immediately I notice the heat emanating from the room. I go and check the thermostat (thinking of course it’s probably hot bc the room is empty) and it is at 78°F. I proceed to set the temperature to 70°F and wait for the room to cool down. This never happened instead the room temp increased to 79°. After about 20 min of no improvement I call the front desk and they tell me their AC system is having problems and that they would switch me to another room. I immediately accepted as the heat was unbearable. I go downstairs to speak to the front desk and they show no remorse or even a sense of apology for this inconvenience. They proceed to tell me that the room is hot bc the sun hits the room window and heats it up. This explanation makes no sense as to why the AC system does not work?! I ask them what this has to do with anything and they say “it’s been really hot lately so the rooms are hot too but we can switch you to a room that faces away from the city view so it’s cooler.” Mind you, I am from Fl I know what heat feels like and that is why it is important to have working AC systems. Regardless of how hot the whether is, the AC system does not depend on that. Nonetheless at this point even though I had paid extra for a room with view I was willing to take anything with working AC. It was 10pm and I was tired. I go to the second room they give me and the same problem happened. I was told “it should be cooler” and when I asked when the AC system would be fixed I didn’t get a fixed answer. Instead I was told “ it should be cooler in the morning bc it’s not as hot in the morning.” I was appalled at the lack of urgency with which this was being treated. I was also told “you’re going to be here for 3 nights so try out the other room because it is hot.” I almost felt like this was a joke to them. It turns out the entire AC system was broken and all the guest had been moved to rooms in the lower levels that were cooler and there were no more rooms available in the lower levels for me and my sister. This was not told to me when I checked in nor was it mentioned in the website. At 11pm after a 9 hour flight I had to look for a different hotel and ask for a refund from them because I could not stay there. The only thing they did right was give me a refund for my money. I could not have had a worse experience here, it was truly disappointing as I had high hopes for this hotel. Do not stay here.

Regular hotel very tipical hotel rooms size good and clean and parking with fees the amazing is location and view really wonderful, housekeeping you have to request a night before due to covid19. Staff good and friendly. Some restaurants near by hotel which is good.
