Surprised at my overnight stay in Fiumicino

My plan was to stay at an hotel at the FCO airport due to a morning flight but by accident ended up at the Mercure hotel. A 10 minute local taxi ride to the hotel. Had visited Rome quite a bit by then so didn't feel the need to get back for a half day there. Went on a walk towards the sea along the river (lungomare) a few hours before sunset and was happy I did. Lots of fishing boats returning with their catches, local merchants purchasing all kinds of seafood, rustic fisherman, lovely sunset. Plenty of restaurants to eat at on the way back but I con't comment on them yet.
Good airport hotel

We stayed here for one night before our flight back home and had a good time in total. The rooms are those of a standard business and airport hotel: comfortable, clean and spacious. There is a small fridge and a big TV in the room, unfortunately the smart TV functions are very limited, possibly due to the WiFi speed. The fitness room could need some updates or additional machines, but it's enough for a good training. The in house restaurant is ok, our pasta was tasty, just a little salty, but not bad. We didn't use the pool, but the garden and pool area was looking good. The airport shuttle costs an extra of 6€ per person and way. Staff was friendly, there are restaurants and supermarkets in walking distance. We'd choose this hotel again.
The hotel is also the people-staff....

It was my second time there: the first stay was ok but during pandemic lockdown there was almost nobody. This time it was fully booked and issues emerged. The second night I couldn’t sleep till after 2am ( and my wake up was at 5am ) because there was a bunch of drunken tourists in the pool garden under my window ( I was at 4th floor ) and I had to complain twice before someone intervened. At breakfast there was such a long queue that if you had a flight or business to attend, you had no choice but skip it ( I saw people doing it ): personally I had time so I waited almost 30 minutes to get something to eat and once seated, after I finished all my breakfast, I was still waiting my first cup of coffee ( notwithstanding my remonstrance ). Generally speaking the staff was not giving coherent information, so you could get different answers according to the person on duty at that moment. The worst ever was a receptionist named Ivana who had also a supercilious attitude with guests, so that I saw 2 couples cancel the reservation and leave on the spot ( it was August 15th ) surely due also to her behaviour in answering to their complaints. Last but not least I had the surprise to get to know that I had to leave the room at 12 while the night before the receptionist on duty had told me that the room was available one more night. So I had to find me another accommodation on a day that in Italy is like Christmas or Easter ( August 15th ).

The hotel is well located close to the airport in the nice fishing town of Fiumicino. The staff are very helpful and make the stay very welcoming The airport shuttle to the airport is very reasonably priced and regular.
