Hotel with very poor restaurant service without many options. Service at the pool leaves something to be desired. The rooms are very large and well ventilated. The oceanfront rooms look very good. The Christmas and New Year dinners were excellent with quality. On New Year's Eve there was a good quality band.

Clean, Casual, Well Run Hotel

We traveled by car from Curitiba to Florianopolis, a 300 km drive. Part of which is through a mountainous region with a mix of pine and palm trees. Well worth the four hours. So, we arrived at Proto Sol Beach late in the evening. The staff was friendly and helpful at check in to the seaside room we had booked. The room was simple but very clean. We woke early in the morning. Standing on the balcony was magical. There were a few people already walking the beach. A three-masted tour bark was anchored off shore, which set a wonderful scene for our first day. The Brazilian style breakfast buffet was well done. I say that, because when we arrived a number of the serving plates were empty. However, by the time we started selecting food items, the entire buffet was completely replenished. We only ate dinner at the hotel one night. The other nights we ate out as we traveled the island. One of the restaurants was recommended by the hotel staff. The hotel dinning room served wholesome Brazilian fare. We enjoyed the meal and the friendly service. This is a casual hotel. Overall, it is a good value. I really like the mix of clientele. Young, middle age, and older couples; families with children of all ages; Business travelers as well. To me, Porto Sol Beach was quite and peaceful even with the mix of people. Florianopolis is a seaside city, that also serves as the state capital and a hub for commerce. So, the city gets lively and road traffic can be a challenge. The hotel is 20 km outside, which makes for a nice retreat.

Modern hotel, nice rooms with en-suite and wi-fi. Breakfast OK. Buffet dinners unimaginative (so we ate in town). Large swimming pool. Beach good for swimmers, not for surfers. There was a tremendously helpful and friendly manager called Luis. The other staff tried to help, but knew little English. The hotel is somewhat isolated - to get to Canasvieras town, you need either 15 minutes' walk along the sometimes narrow beach (you will get wet feet), or else 25 minutes' walk along the road, or else a taxi. TIP: A taxi from/to Florianopolis city costs about 90 reais, but the "executivo" bus no 1122 costs a lot less, using a bus stop about 5 - 10 minutes' walk from the hotel.

Gross, Run Down Hotel

This is not a 4 star hotel, by any stretch of your imagination. It is very run down, we left a day early and forfeited our payment. They gym and recreation rooms are in absolute tatters. It is also a long way from the town unless you walk along the beach over a smelly river, and do not do this at night. DO NOT STAY HERE! And, the front desk staff is incompetent.

I have only ever written 1 review on trip advisor but felt compelled to write another based on our recent stay. I will say this before I begin that the pictures and description of this property are EXTREMELY misleading. This nightmare property revealed itself the moment we drove up in our rental car. The Hotel was dirty and dingy on the outside and the property was in a state of disarray. Our late arrival yielded a front desk clerk that was far beyond his means in being able to provide a warm welcome and the smell emanating from somewhere was enough to make you want to vomit in your tracks. Against our better judgement we checked into an odd room, all white with a king bed and a single bed for good measure. There was no art on the walls and the 2 plastic lawn chair in the room were a nice touch. The toilet water was brown and when we turned on the taps, that water was brown too. They did put 2 water bottles in our mini fridge but never replaced them. The hotel served both breakfast - inedible, and dinner, also inedible. The gym was basically a closet with broken equipment other than a 20 years old treadmill that actually still ran. No water, no towels, smelled bad, hadn't been cleaned in what looked like a year. I could go on, please do NOT ever stay here. Literally the worst place we have ever stayed, the worst staff too. Supposed to stay for a week, lasted 2 days. Bugs, dirt, bad smells, rude and untrained staff. No idea how this place is even allow to have guests. The picture I have posted is of the light cover in our bathroom. Seriously.
