Room we stayed was not value for money wish we booked into a premier inn or the bridge hotel.. Rooms seem to have been decorated but not of good standard cracks in cieling, dusty room , shower low pressure and hairs in bathroom . Beds uncomfortable and looked as tho duvet had not been changed tho sheets were fresh so slept with sheet .. found food bits under bed and sweet wrapper therfor i give poor rating
Hidden gem outside Durham

Great reasonable price for a quaint inn. Durham central was booked out for Uni week and we were glad we found this place as it had the best Italian restaurant I have ever been to - La Spada. Incredible service by all staff and food to die for. It was fully booked and I asked and was told they served 300 meals that night and thats normal. And all with warmth and efficiency. They should go into staff training!

We stayed here overnight in late July. Three of us shared a family room. It was clean, recently decorated, pleasant and more plenty of space, especially considering the very low price we paid for the room and breakfast.
The host was extremely friendly, as we're all the staff. We enjoyed a fantastic dinner in the restaurant downstairs on the evening we arrived before we went out to work.
The beds were comfortable, the room easily accessible in the middle of the night after doing a late gig.
The next morning we had the pleasure of one of the best breakfasts I've ever had in my life. Lovely surroundings, delicious food and a very warm and pleasant greeting by the owner.
The place is spotlessly clean and the food and service is what we would expect in a top notch, expensive London hotel, rather than a small and very inexpensive B&B.
Cannot recommend this place highly enough. Full marks!

Dinner last night was fantastic and cost about half what I would've expected to pay.
The room we stayed in was bright and clean, recently decorated and very pleasant.
Breakfast this morning was delicious, great food and the sort of service we have come to expect from prestigious London hotels rather than a B&B.
Fantastic value for money, very clean, exceptional service. Full marks!
Awful-owner asked us NOT to write on TripAdvisor

Having previously stayed here, last Sept we booked 2 nights B&B,to attend a Graduation in Durham end of June.On arrival we were shown that our room was not in the pub but along the street in a house. The room was bling & 'seedy' & window onto pavement with no nets/blinds. wardrobe door fell off, no hot water (thermostat on min), shower only a trickle-so boiled kettle for hot water, TV only worked on ITV, travel kettle only just worked, cheapest tea bags, room not cleaned for our 2nd night, list could go on forever.
When the owner told us breakfast was 9-10, we stressed that was too late for us, not even offered anything to be left out.
We needn't have worried about missing the continental breakfast, next day shown a table of Aldi pain au chocolat, Aldi cereal bars, apples, bananas & fruit juice. Struggled to find us some tea bags (fellow diners had to have mint tea).
On returning to our room (having to walk along the street, round into the car park) the owner came to see us, knowing that the other couple were planning on telling TripAdvisor. We pointed out facts & he stressed that he was an Italian restaurateur not hotel keeper-so why the APPAULING breakfast?
He asked us "not to write on TripAdvisor & I will give you a free lunch", when we wouldn't shake on that , he changed it to " free stay in my very best room, whenever you like to". No thank you, sooner away & suggest they stick to the restaurant.
