Great value and great location

One of the best hotel in term of value in Fukui. The hotel is located right beside the train station, and it is very convenience. The room is about standard Japan size room, but alittle bigger. The room is very clean. They do provide daily buffet breakfast with great variety of traditional Japanese food. There are also free coffee and tea available at lobby during certain hours. And they also offer free soba (limited amount) during night time. The lobby staffs and cleaners are also very friendly.

A very pleasant stay

I had booked 2 twin adjoining rooms, which gave us each a bathroom and a bit more space. We arrived earlier than book-in time but paid a nominal fee and they let us in to our rooms early. Beds were very comfortable and we both managed to sleep decently. I liked the fact that we were able to chose extra pillows of our liking from the 2nd floor, and that they had washers/dryers, so we managed to do a load of washing. Staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was a bit disappointing for our tastes, but to be fair we had been spoilt for choice in Kyoto. We did manage to find cornflakes and yoghurt, and (very runny) scrambled eggs with what looked like mini hamburgers with cheese in the middle. This hotel definitely suited our purposes for the 2 nights we spent there.

Staff, location and communal bath - high scores!

With a friendly check- in, I was given Room 901, with a double bed and a view to the west / northwest. It was a bit more spacious than most biz hotel rooms, well- laid- out with some space- saving tricks like hangers along the wall instead of a closet. The work desk was ample and the internet was fast. The room had a nice and comfortable feel to it. The bedding was very comfy and with window let in fresh air. It was very quiet. The bathroom was a classic business hotel compact model with fittings in between the most basic and the upgraded biz hotel bathrooms that you see these days. There were three men’s communal baths, one hot and one cold on the inside, and one more hot bath outdoors. There was a really serene, minimalist garden with three very different trees – one gnarled, one ramrod- straight, and one in between, but they somehow worked well together, a real feat of garden design!!! The staff were very helpful. The station is steps away, as is a konbini and many good restaurants – great location. All in all, it’s hard to beat this hotel for a short stay.

Great location, friendly staff

Stayed two nights mid January with our 7 year old, so we could visit the amazing dinosaur museum nearby Fukui. The location was perfect being so close to the main train station both for arriving/leaving Fukui but also for getting to the dinosaur museum via the Echizen railway. The rooms are small but the service was fantastic. We finally found comfortable pillows which was a problem throughout Japan. The outside onsen was fantastic too - we were lucky to be there when it was snowing. Happy to highly recommend this hotel.

An OK hotel

I’ve stayed in a few local hotels and the Manten scores points on several fronts compared to say the Route Inn. Manten has a bar and restaurant and a better breakfast - the rooms are a bit small as you’ve already read, but don’t let that put you off. The price is about the same, the staff are better, they can even do some English. The food well, it’s OK, plenty of alternatives outside, but nice to know you can just chill in the hotel bar.
