Tragic

Unwelcoming, service verges on hostile. Please pay and make yourself scarce seems the motto. The overpriced menu has no imagination and the food felt like school dinners. Not worth the money. Not worth visiting. Request a drink or another bottle of wine at your peril. There are plenty of excellent options a short journey further on in Gairloch. I left feeling apologetic for staying, clearly a guest is an inconvenience. The breakfast was grim, some of the ingredients must be from 1950s army surplus ration packs. Hostels offer more at a fraction of the price. I hope they can turn it around, be friendly, accommodating, spruce up the food, and charge less. I did not expect crazy luxury but I did expect the basics.

Lovely location, great views

Lovely location and nice big room and en-suite with Bath, nice views out the window. Didn’t get the best of welcomes on arrival no asking how our day was, after having cycled 70miles, we were rushed to eat as they only serve evening meal between 6-7pm. The waiter made the stay he carried our bags up for us and was really welcoming. Food was great! Breakfast lovely you pick what you want the night before.

Great peaceful spot with fab view

I am so sad to read some of the awful reviews below. The poor owners have had such a tough time trying to accommodate us in the middle of a pandemic and I think peoples expectations are unrealistic. It is in the highlands, miles from anywhere with a beautiful view of the Loch. So so peaceful. The room was large, clean sheets and great towels. Comfy bed. Nice products in the bathroom. Good hairdryer. Yes the water was brown but straight from the hills, my hair has never felt softer. There was a note explaining that. The food was home cooked, simple but delicious. As for the rules, they are trying to keep Covid free so that they don’t have to close down and disappoint people. They have staffing issues and have even got family in to ensure people are not let down. I am embarrassed by previous comments, people seem to be so ungrateful. We are happy to have stayed here and thanks all the staff for making it a pleasant stay.

Peaceful beautiful place

After reading previous reviews I was having second thoughts whether to stay here and I shouldn’t have. I loved it. Such a beautiful hotel with so much history. Queen Victoria stayed here and in previous years TV personalities. The bar area was very nice and the lounge was comfortable with ornate tables and comfortable chairs. Yes it’s an old building but has such a charm about it. Our bed was very comfortable with crisp bedding. There was a bath with shower handset which was ok for hair washing. Yes the water was tinged brown but we were in the Highlands. The views from our room were amazing and we did get wi-fi too. Breakfast was delicious, freshly prepared and not a problem to order the night before. The hosts were very welcoming and chatty. The young man who served breakfast was polite and helpful. I wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again it was so relaxing. Just remember there is no shower cubicle and it’s not a modern bathroom and you’ll be ok.

Lovely hotel in spectacular location

Reviewed 12 september, 2021

Stayed here with friends whilst on the NC500 route. This is a lovely hotel in a very remote location with the most spectacular views of the loch. We were made to feel very welcome by the owners and the young man who served us both in the morning and evening ( they are really struggling to find staff). Our bedrooms were small but comfortable and very clean. There’s no WiFi in the bedrooms but actually it’s fine! This is the Highlands not a city!!! Most of us can survive for a couple of days without the internet! We found it quite refreshing not to be able to connect! Breakfast was great, plenty to choose from. Yes you need to order the night before but it only takes two minutes! Some things took a little time but given the fact that there was only one young man covering everything a little patience doesn’t hurt! The waiter was lovely and really helpful! We had one evening meal which was very tasty. We will definitely return if we do this trip again.
