Construction forever

Reviewed 23 january, 2023

So disappointed, though the staff was professional. We booked during the construction of rooms and a new building. Construction was without stop. It started at 7 AM and rand through 6 PM. Won’t be back

Beautiful and so relaxing 👙👙

We were there for a week, place is very nice, beautiful small beach. The snorkelling was great and the water was beautiful and clear. The place is under construction right now but that wasn’t an issue for us because we spent our day on the beach. Nice restaurants in the area, we loved Celeste Island quisine, Thanks Hiram!! Paradise Island restaurant has the best pizza I ever eaten. Thanks Ericka !! ButI would not recommend Governors restaurant, just gross. Our stay was amazing thanks to everyone and I hope the GRAND ROATAN realizes that they have the best staff ever after being on 24 vacations in the Caribbean, yes you do!! Thank you to Victor, Sunny, Joshua, Steven and everyone else I didn’t mention. See you all next year!!

World-class snorkeling and sunsets at your fingertips! A lovely week in paradise :)

We've been to top beach resorts all over the world, from Maldives to Tahiti and most every Caribbean Island/Belize, etc- we try to never go back to the same place. We'd make an exception here at the Grand Roatan. Other than the Galapagos- some of the best snorkeling anywhere on the planet and right of this resort's beach! Add to that a wonderful setting, privacy from being at the end of the beach (with the island's best reefs :), away from the tourists, no cruise ship mobs, phenomenal and personal service throughout. Very accommodating at beachside, front desk, restaurant, housekeeping. 5 stars easily. If there was any 4 stars- it would be the food- but better than elsewhere on the island- but you don't come to Roatan for the food (I'd give the breakfasts 5-stars). Note -they are doing some construction on a new tower aways back from the beach- some guests had commented on noise during the day, but we didn't notice it at all.

Not Worth What It Costs!!

The room was a huge letdown. Nowhere near as nice as the website, staff or price would lead you to believe. View, which was one of our top considerations, overlooked the roof of an under construction building with a flooded roof full of garbage. Tons of noise on property due to massive construction going on!!! Just for this I would avoid this hotel for the next 3 years at least. Tons of noise anywhere near the building we stayed in and all the way to the pool area. The pool was basically unusable due to noise. Food is mediocre at best, so don’t have your hopes up, but it seemed that way all over Roatan. The employees were awesome, but also what you would expect for what you pay. The snorkeling immediately in front of the hotel is fantastic. Very, very disappointed!! I would strongly not recommend.

The Perfect Caribbean Experience!

It's always a fun process to try to pick out that perfect place to stay somewhere you have never been before. Sifting out the overly good and overly bad reviews is a tough process, but we certainly succeeded in choosing Grand Roatan! Our 7 days here were incredible in every category. I always was suspicious of reviews which mention all the employees names, but at GR, they are some of the nicest, most accommodating people you will ever meet and you will get to know them. They have a great shuttle service from the airport and our driver stopped by one of the local stands that was selling coconuts and they chopped off the top with a machete and put a straw in it to drink the water. Let me start with the reason we picked Roatan, the beach. If you look at Google Earth, you will see how close the coral reef comes to the hotel, it's the closest of any resort. For snorkeling, you will not need to pay for a charter. That is the reason why many of the snorkeling charters come to this area. The variety of species of fish on the reef is amazing. Your day starts by getting towels, claiming your lounge chair for the day and then snorkeling, swimming in the pool and eating. There is also a convenient shower right at the beach to wash off. The staff will bring your drinks or lunch right out to you. You can also indulge in a fresh pineapple or coconut that you can purchase from the locals who come by in skiffs. Next is the food, the restaurant is very good and has some of the best appetizers you will ever taste. The breakfast is something to behold, many unique local foods along with fresh fruit and juice and a chef that makes eggs to order. You will get hooked on the baleadas though! The rooms are very spacious and clean. There are nice paths of sand or stone which go through the tropical forest to get to your room. We had a junior suite, initially we had one which was the furthest of any to the beach (107-109) and they were very accommodating when we asked them for one closer. Some of the reviews mentioned the construction, at some point, when they were doing all the heavy construction, it probably was a nuisance. Now that it is all framed in, the noise does not make it's way down to the beach or pool. When you are in your room, they will be done working for the day. Construction was a non-issue for us. We were told though that they are closing down later in 2023 to do some more major renovation and it will be under new ownership, but until then, expect one of the best experiences in the Caribbean! We did get a chance to look at some of the other resorts nearby and none were at the same level as GR. Many of these other resorts give out day passes to the people who come in on cruise ships and it can get very crowded at the pool or beach, GR does NOT. Hopefully Tripadvisor will purge all reviews at that point, because the resort will change names and is sure to be different from now. Most of the employees did not know what to expect unfortunately.
