It's a Bunk House, Not a Hotel!
First, the staff is very friendly, and the rooms are clean. The breakfast at the diner is great. There is ONE problem: This place is a bunk house. The beds are cots. They are mattresses thrown onto a cot (no box spring). There is no lobby. You check in through the diner, which is award. You also have to walk through a cloud of smoke to get into the hotel, as the patio is at the front door. YUK! If they had real beds, a real lobby, and you didn't have to risk cancer while walking through smoke to get to your room, I would have given it 5 stars.
Great place to stay!
Very clean and up to date. We were very impressed by our room. One thing that was strange, but not really an issue, was we needed to check in at the attached restaurant. If in the Glenwood area again, we will definitely stay here again.
More than likely the cheapest but nicest place to stay in Glenwood
Wasn't sure what to expect given the reputation of the hotels in Glenwood (minus the Grand Stay). The room was very nice and well furnished. Couldn't hear the railroad at all so the room was quiet. I would highly recommend staying here again.
Good and Bad
The rocking chairs on the patio entrance to the building are lovely. HOWEVER, it's a designated smoking area that you have to WALK THROUGH to get into the building. :P I was surprised that it has no common area -- like, no swimming pool or hot tub, and no lobby -- to hang out in. At least, no area for non-smokers to hang out in (just the rocking chairs smoking area). The breakfast at Penny's Diner was very good. Building was clean and well maintained.
Horrible Place to stay
Check in is in the rundown 50's cafe next door. Breakfast is a discount at the cafe, where we were refused service because by wife has celiac disease. Previous occupants clothing on the floor when we checked in. No housekeeping service the next day. Used towel collection, two new towels (No bathmat), and only trash can emptied the next day. Adjustment of rate promised, but it didn't happen. This place is a dive. Don't stay there.
