Last-minute gem!
Me any my wife stayed at Avani on our honeymoon back in November 2018. I booked it literally on the last possible day and had some trepidations as it was our first stop on the route but everything turned out great! It is a VERY beautiful place, especially the private beach, which is windy and not really swimmable in November but just as pretty and scenic! Communication in advance was lacking, especially regarding transport but that was my own fault for doing everything in the last minute. On arrival we were greeted by an immensly helpful and kind member of staff whose name unfortunately I don't remember but he was from I believe Mali or Ghana. I'm sad I haven't taken a note of this as I have rarely seen such impeccable and kind service, even for Seychelles standards (which are really high!) and this wonderful man really deserves a raise for his efforts. The hotel itself is just a tad old-fashioned in looks but the rooms are amazing, spacious, full of light and opening up to a great courtyard with a pool. The restaurant (Tamarind) was also a jewel, not super expensive but availng of all landmark local dishes and with a kind Asian staff. Grand Anse is in general a pretty good place to stay on Mahe, as it is not the most popular stretch by far, but there are amazing beaches within close reach to the south and if you're not able or willing to splurge for the (otherwise amazing looking) Hilton, Kempinski or Ephelia, etc, Avani is a really great option. Sunset views are also one of a kind!
Amazing all round
I feel there is not enough stars to rate the wonderful experience we had at Avani. The service was excellent, out of this world. We have never felt this spoiled and well taken care of. All the facilities were in good working order and the food was tasty. The view was amazing being right on the beach especially with breakfast and the buffet was great. The two kitties wondering around I also enjoyed as I am a huge animal lover and it made it feel more like home. The only thing is there is a lot of mosquitoes so bring some peaceful sleep, which the reception did warn us about beforehand. We definitely recommend this accommodation and to be honest we would even rate them above some of the 5 star hotels we where also at. Thanks again Avani!
Amazing

Idyllic Location
It’s very difficult to find a fault! We stayed here for three nights in March, just before the virus crisis caused travel restrictions. My husband had booked the trip as a surprise and well in advance of our arrival, the staff had been very helpful in setting things up. While we were there, we found the staff to be friendly and helpful almost without exception. Our Ocean View Suite was huge, clean and comfortable. The ocean view itself is through foliage, but it’s a very short walk to the ocean. All the food was excellent. We ate in the Tamarind and stayed for hours after the meal, drinking our wine sat in the sag bags in the sand. We ate at the buffet one evening and also did the beachside private dining, surrounded by a heart-shaped lighting ring. Every meal was great. We were lucky enough to get seats on the outside decking of the main restaurant/bar area on six out of our seven attempts (the buffet, three drinks and two breakfasts). Try for this if you can - the view over the beach is perfect. Great cocktail menu and plenty of wine choices. Not a huge beer choice, but cold lager was fine in the 30 degree plus heat. We loved Barbarons beach and walked it end to end every day. It’s not a beach for swimming (at least not when you swim like us!), but really interesting, with lots of coral and shells washed up and a backdrop of varying greenery. There is a small area roped of for swimming at the rocky end of the beach - look out for the rope swing! We were surprised how quiet the beach was. We both felt that the location was a little bit of paradise and were sorry to leave. We hired a car to get around, which was well worth it. While the island is small, the roads mean that it takes longer than you expect to get from a to b. We drove around most of the island. For us aside from Barbarons our favourite beaches were Cap Ternay, Intendance Bay, Carana, Port Laney and especially Police Bay. Highly recommend this place to stay.
Rude hotel manager
We had a two nights stay. It was a nice stay and wonderful experience but on our first day we noticed the hotel manager being very rude towards a client and the next day it was towards a young foreign staff in an open area. Spoiled our mood a bit.
