Couples Getaway

Reviewed 11 december, 2021

What a beautiful room and a lovely staff. Keisha was kind, helpful, and very accommodating. The room was a bit small, but perfect for a couples getaway. The hotel is located near loads of restaurants, VanAndel Arena, DeVos Place and the Grand Rapids African American Museum and Archive.

Thank you Grand Rapids Courtyard

After a long work day, I was welcomed by a most friendly Keisha at the front desk. I travel a lot for work and she was above and beyond by any standard. Very pleasant stay and very friendly service. Top notch. Thank you to everyone at the Courtyard Grand Rapids, well done. This place is anything you need and more in Grand Rapids.

Great location in downtown Grand Rapids

Reviewed 6 september, 2021

The hotel is centrally located to access the downtown district by foot. Rooms were clean, but they came with basic amenities only. There was no daily cleaning service, which was claimed to Covid safety measures. However, anywhere else we have traveled during this pandemic the daily service was offered in a safe manner, so we were not really happy with this service being cancelled. Breakfast was not offered but just a voucher for their in-house coffee shop - choice wasn’t healthy nor good. At the end, there is not much value for the price paid.

Good location, mediocre stays

Reviewed 2 september, 2021

The Courtyard location is very convenient to the downtown area. Lots of restaurants, bars, shops, museum, etc. nearby and within walking distance. That being said there are several things that detracted from my stays: The last two times I've stayed here, on the day of checkout, my room keys have been deactivated before the 11:00 am checkout time. It didn't even make a difference when I requested a late checkout afforded by my Elite status. The first time, I couldn't get my car out of their parking lot because the key wouldn't open the gate. The second time, I went downstairs to get the bellhop cart to haul my luggage and when I got back up to my room, the key no longer opened the door. In both cases, it wasn't too difficult to get the keys reactivated but nothing like having to retrace the steps you already took because the hotel deactivated your room key earlier than they should have. Highly inconvenient. Other things, as some others have noted, it is $24 to park in their lot and getting back into the hotel from the parking lot is a bit involved and quite a distance to cover, you can't turn on the shower without getting sprayed with water, the coffee maker is in the bathroom, the cocktail glasses that used to come with the ice bucket have been replaced by small, clear plastic cups, and the rooms, except those reserved on the top level for extra $, do not have microwave ovens in them. Next time I stay in GR, it won't be here.

Needs Work - Not Worth The Money

We traveled to Grand Rapids for a family get-together and reserved two rooms for my wife and me and for my sister. Being a Titanium Elite I thought I would deserve some consideration by the hotel staff for loyalty, etc. Only half of those expectations were met. I checked-in on-line for one room and called the hotel directly to request that the two rooms be as close to one another as possible. I was told that would be done. Upon arrival, I walked into an empty lobby and neither of the two hotel clerks spoke to recognize me as a customer. One smiled so I chose her to check me in. That didn't go well. She didn't recognize me as elite, didn't say anything about the bonus point about check-in, and handed me card keys for rooms that were separated by a large distance; she assured me they were right next to each other. (720 and 736, hmmm) When we got to the 7th floor, of course the rooms weren't next to each other. I called the manager and she was the person I spoke with that morning. Her name was Meg and she took care of the situation apologizing for the lack of experience on the part of the front desk personnel. She was great. The room my sister has was in fine shape. Ours was larger and had some drawers that didn't work. Additionally, Marriott thought that there should be a microwave in the room uncermoniously placed on a round end table (too small for the microwave) with a Keureg stuck on top. It looked like a motel in Oklahoma. (Sorry Oklahoma, I've seen it) When I called down later to ask about a late check-out, I identified myself and room number and was met with "Sure." At least the clerk didn't talk fast. We noted the table in the elevator waiting lobby on our floor had a pool of spilled beer that had run under the lamp on the table. Told the front desk. They got rid of the bottles and wiped down the table but didn't move the lamp Two hours later the lobby reeked of dry and cheap beer. On Sunday when we were checking out, there were other guests drinking beer in the lobby (no bar, just the lobby). Would I stay here again? No. The price was too high for what we received and they, like most Marriott hotels these days, don't recognize the loyalty. Shame on you Marriott for your behavior and bait and switch.Show less
