Really REALLY good, with a few caveats
Opinión escrita el 13 de Septiembre de 2021
Everything that you want to know about this hotel is on the website, and yes ... It really is as gorgeous as their online photos. Nothing misleading there ! Matthew, the front desk guy when I checked in, was friendly and helpful, gave me all the info I needed, and even personally came to find me at the bar when my room was ready. The drink and appetizer I had while was waiting were delicious, and the room does not disappoint. Beautifully renovated, just like the rest of the property. And right in the heart of the cute little downtown.
Room: gorgeous. Bed: super comfortable. Luxe.
However, it came as a shock to me that THERE IS NO TELEVISION IN THE ROOM.
Super hipsters and academics may scoff and say "why do you need a TV on vacation ?" Well, I like my morning coffee with a little talking head banter, and I enjoy movies at night. For a hotel that advertises a recent full renovation and "modern amenities" this seems like a poor decision. If this fact had been more prominently mentioned on the website, I would have packed my iPad for streaming services.
There is in room coffee, and if you love the new trend in lighter, floral hipster coffee you're in luck. I, however, do not. It's so floral that it's bordering on metallic ... Almost undrinkable (to my taste, anyway.)
I will absolutely return to the Holbrooke Hotel - it has a lot going for it, for sure. But I will make sure to pack my own iPad, my preferred dark roast coffee, and - if I desire to use the in room speaker for music - a cord that works with a newer iPhone, as the one in the room won't work with anything newer than a 7 (again, not quite in line with the promised "new / modern amenities" but not a huge deal. A bluetooth capable speaker would be the best option ...)
Definitely check out the hotel's restaurant while you stay, and also "Watershed at the Owl" ... Another great restaurant 2 blocks away.

Sunday brunch at the Golden Gate Saloon at the Holbrooke Hotel was fantastic. Both the Chirizo & Potatoes (with eggs to preference) and the Chilaquiles (same) were beyond expectations and low priced as well. Outside patio seating, excellent friendly service and a couple of special treats made this memorable and worth the effort to review. Skip the crowded indoors dining at the other vaunted breakfast place in town, wait until 10am and prepare to be satisfied at the Golden Gate Saloon.

Nice place, beautiful renovation. Unfortunately, their website is lacking in detail. As is some staff knowledge. I called to make a reservation for the main hotel and asked specifically if the rooms upstairs had access to the pretty balcony with the rocking chairs. I was told yes. When we checked in I asked how to get to the balcony and was told it was only available for certain rooms. I specifically chose this hotel so we could sit on a porch or balcony as is in their pictures. Extremely disappointed, as the rooms are very expensive. Their site also makes it seem as if the restaurant is open and does state indoor dining. Yes, they are serving food, but not in the restaurant. You can sit outside on the patio or at one of three tables inside near the bar. Not a very relaxing restaurant atmosphere. Food was good. However, I will not pay $250 a night again when one can't even sit on the gorgeous balconies. That information should be made very clear. Otherwise it just feels like they're trying to hide it and you're being ripped off. Very sad.

Lovely facility, but support, noise control and especially parking were lacking (Covid undoubtably a big factor here). Great historical interest. Everyone was very nice. The town and nearby Nevada City have much of interest. Good restaurants. Beautiful scenery.
Fabulous Vintage Style Hotel with a Modern Feel

My husband and I stayed at the Holbrooke Hotel while visiting the area from Southern California. We were accompanied by our small Terrier. I can't say enough about our wonderful experience here. The decor and design is fabulous and exceptional! It has been recently, completely renovated from top to bottom and was done so with care and attention to detail.
Our room was super clean and fresh. The King bed was super cozy and relaxing. We loved the vintage touches of the gorgeous claw foot shower/tub and the personal drip coffee in a cup. Even the lighting was perfect!
We ate breakfast on the back patio and the food was once again, exceptional as was the service we received from our server. For dinner we ate a late meal on the front terrace where we were joined by our small Terrier. We had the pleasure of meeting Anthony, who provided background history about the hotel and travel information about the area of Grass Valley.
Overall our experience was perfect and we will definitely be back when we are in the area again.
