Good for day use
We were staying at an apartment in Santos but wanted to go to Guaruja for the day and wanted a place were we could go to the pool, take a nap, use the facilities, shower, etc. Hotel Vicino al Mare is right across the street from the beach. We were able to charge some things we consumed at the beach back to the room, which was very convenient. The pool was great and the restaurant is right on it, so we got food and drinks served while we were at the pool. The room was pretty clean and comfortable. Comfy beds, and clean restroom / shower.
Excellent weekend getaway from Sao Paulo
My partner and I were looking for a quick and easy getaway from Sao Paulo given that the forecast was for the low 80s (27-29C). We decided to book a hotel right on the front beach in Guaruja. We knew we wanted to be in Enseada and so we looked for a property close to the Quiosque (Beach Bar) that we had heard good things about. Vicino al Mare popped up and the price was right and so we booked it last minute. What a great place to stay. The positives: Location was excellent Staff was so friendly and helpful The room was new and clean and very functional (black out shades, balcony, clean and new bathroom, comfortable bed, clean nice blankets, mini bar with drinks. Free wifi! Not even requiring a log-in. Those of you that have read my reviews will know this is one of my pet peeves and so a mid range hotel offering good free wifi is definitely a plus! Towels for the beach (and umbrellas and chairs I understand, but we just used the ones at the Quiosque). Late checkout! They were totally accomodating of a 2:30 pm checkout so we were able to enjoy a full day on beach and shower before heading back to SP. I would absolutely recommend this hotel. Maybe because it is off-season it was so pleasant but I definitely will be back!
Location a plus, everything else average
We booked a trip over a long weekend and understandably paid extra for it. While we liked the location, everything in the hotel was just average. Considering what we had paid, I was disappointed. The staff was very friendly, but breakfast completely overwhelmed them as the small dining room reached capacity quickly and guests stood around waiting for items. The bathrooms, beds, and spaces were pretty mediocre and not what I had expected after reading some of these reviews. I suppose for those hanging at the beach all day, this is great. For those used to nicer amenities, manage your expectations.
Great place to stay
We came here to get out of Sao Paulo for the weekend and what a good choice it was. The location is perfect and couldn't be closer to the beach. The staff are very helpful, the breakfast was good, the pool area is sensational and I would highly recommend staying here. The rooms are basic but clean and all you need for a beach side hotel . Thanks to all for an awesome weekend away .
Great location, bad hotel
This hotel is a few steps across a small road from a gorgeous beach. What it's got going for it stops there. The cons: - No ambient sound whatsoever = very loud rooms. You can hear horns honking and dogs barking outside, and your loud neighbors through the walls and door. - Terrifying wiring = exposed wires in the outlets and the SHOWER! - Gross features = areas surrounding most fixtures (including toilet paper holder, shower knobs, switches, soap holder) show signs that these items were replaced at some point, and replaced poorly. - Rotting ceiling fan = the normal excitement one might feel at seeing a ceiling fan (yay!) in a hotel room is quashed by the fact that the ends of all the blades appear to be...rotting. - This not an inexpensive hotel: it cost a squinch under US$200/night for zero luxury. The Pros: - Amazing location - Decent-sized room (we had a 4-person family room) with mini bar, safe and wifi. - When someone else buys this hotel and decides to do great things, it will be wonderful. - 2 outdoor swimming pools, one of which is in the front of the hotel, facing the street and beach.
