Labor Day getaway

We enjoyed an extended weekend at Island Sunrise with our children and grandchildren. Accommodations were convenient and very comfortable. We loved being able to walk directly on the sand without having to cross and highways. We look forward to visiting again.

Stayed here in March 2021:
*non smoking room was clearly smoked in before we got there. Mgmt sent an odor bomb and told us to set it off while we were gone. No chance, we just toughed it out, rather than having to cover all our stuff while we set it off. Should have been offered a different room.
*Maintenance can get in whenever they want/don’t wait long enough after knocking before letting themselves in. (There isn’t a security latch on many of these vacation rentals)They came into the room 3 times without calling first. One of the times we were taking a nap with a toddler who is hard to get to sleep. They knocked and we jumped out of bed to try to get there to answer and they had already let themselves in, waiting not more that 7 seconds after the knock. Think about this In the perspective of if you’re in the shower or going to the bathroom. You’re not getting to the door before a stranger is already in the room. Another time we went to the room to get lunch and a maintenance guy was in the room measuring something when we got there. It’s simply unnerving not knowing when your privacy would be violated.
*various safety/maintenance concerns(pictures included) 1.) balcony door, doorknob lock didn’t work and there was a jury rigged security bolt installed, which was falling apart. We shoved a chair in front of the door when not using the balcony to be sure the toddler couldn’t get out onto the balcony. 2.) One receptacle didn’t have a plate on it, and another was loosely hanging on the wall.
Perfect accommodations with easy beach access and walking distance to the HangOut!

In June/July, 6 of us stayed at #66 for a week. It was an easy walk to the Hangout and Sea n Suds is right next door. The access to the beach is right over the walkway. We never had an issue with finding a place near the water. The building is smaller than a lot of the condominiums making it ideal. We would go back year after year.
Still Our Favorite Place to Stay in Gulf Shores - Unit 262 Review
Reviewed 15 July, 2019
We recently stayed at the Island Sunrise, unit 262 and could not have been happier. The condo is one of the older buildings in Gulf Shores, but is clean and well kept. It sits right on a beautiful section of beach with only a very short walk across the dunes to the water. There are newer, bigger and fancier condo's available, but you'll be hard pressed to find a more comfortable one. Or one that offers a better value. The small size is one of the best features because people tend to set up on the beach right in front of where they are staying, so this translates in to a less crowded section of beach because there are fewer people staying here. Easy walk to Waffle House, Hooters and several other restaurants. Numerous delivery options are available as well. There is a small market right across the street. You can walk to the Hangout and the big souvenir shops in about 15-20 minutes. There is a Walmart, Dollar General and Walgreens within an 8 minute drive. We never had a problem finding a place to park, though the lot can be a little tight. We never had any issues with noisy neighbors or noise from the beach (unlike Myrtle Beach). There is only one elevator, but we never had to wait on it more than a minute. Island Sunrise has several grills available next to the building and a nice open air sitting area on the lowest level. There is also vending on this level including snacks, drinks and ice. The beach is immaculately clean and there are no rocks or seaweed. Beach is patrolled regularly by law enforcement, but they never bother anyone as long as you aren't causing a problem. If you've been to Myrtle Beach, you will appreciate the difference at Gulf Shores. I personally will never return to Myrtle Beach again. Far too dangerous and drugs abound everywhere.
We stayed in unit 262, which is a corner condo with a balcony overlooking the beach. The unit has two bedrooms and two baths. The master bedroom has a king size bed along with a day bed that can pull out to a full size bed. There is a private full bath as well. The other bedroom has a double bed and a single bed in the same room and overlooks the beach! It too has a private full bath. Both bedrooms have a television and DVD player. If you like HOT water in the bathroom as I do, you will not be disappointed! Be careful because it gets really hot, but that is a plus to me. I was able to fill up the tub without running out or having it change temperature.
The kitchen has everything you will need for cooking meals or just heating up leftovers. Oven/stove, microwave, dishwasher, fridge and coffee maker. Everything worked as it should. Plenty of utensils and cookware too. The kitchen isn't huge, but plenty of room to cook. Adjacent to the kitchen is a stacked washer and dryer. We utilized them and had no issues at all.
The living room was comfortable with seating for 6. Two on the love seat, three on the couch and one in the rocker/recliner. There is a dinette adjacent that can seat a few more if needed. For the four of us, we found the living room to be very comfortable and homey. The TV was a decent size and had plenty of satellite channels. Internet seemed to work just fine. We took our ROKU and ended up watching it more than regular TV. The AC worked great! No complaints at all with maintaining temperature.
The condo is a bit dated and may not be decorated in your particular style, but that is not unusual in any rental condo. We did not have any maintenance issues to report. Everything worked just fine. I have no problem recommending the Island Sunrise and Unit 262.
