Central hotel but bad customer service

We stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott Halifax Downtown in October, 2021. Pros: - Central location - Clean Cons: - Unfriendly and unaccommodating service at both check-in and check-out - Limited and cramped parking - Dated room (I’d guess early 2000’s). Small TV at awkward angle. TV was very slow and laggy. The poor customer service is the main reason for the low rating.

We changed our hotel at the last minute from a suburban location to this one for 2 nights The forecast was for heavy rain and we wanted a centrally located hotel. It was a great choice. Parking was in a garage attached to the building. Spaces were on the smaller side, but we managed. We didn't use our car again until we left. Our room was quiet and comfortable. I had to get more coffee from the front desk but they had it right there. Too rainy to use the rooftop deck, but it looked nice. Pool was on the cold side. Best part of the hotel was the great location. We would stay here again.

I’d give the hotel 3 stars but the location 4 stars. Great location, walking distance to pretty well everything in downtown Halifax. The lack of any significant parking area is a big negative, makes checking in and out a little tricky, and we had to park in the public parking lot across the street, but lucked out when the ticket machine was out of order so we parked for several days for free. The room was comfortable enough, pretty standard accommodations. You won’t be blown away, but won’t be disappointed either. General tip for downtown Halifax, as far as the numerous restaurants go make dinner reservations ahead of time, especially on the weekend! Everything was booked solid! COVID capacity restrictions seem to be well enforced.
Disappointing Stay and Not Worth the Price

The only positive thing I can say about this hotel would be the location and the rooftop. My booking indicated that I was supposed to get an upgrade. I did not. It wasn’t a big deal as I understand that was not guaranteed. What was disappointing was that it felt like I actually got a downgrade. The room I got looked nothing like the one that I booked. The coffeemaking facility in the room was bad and they did not even provide a complimentary bottle of drinking water which was standard in other hotels I’ve stayed at. When I got to my room, both card keys wouldn’t work and it took some time before they sent out someone with a new set of cards.
Central location, nice rooms

The bedroom was very nice with a view on the water and the location of the hotel is excellent. There is a parking on site (25$ a night) which is very convenient but spaces are tight (wouldn't park a massive SUV there). There are several options for breakfast and they serve Starbucks coffees (cappucino, macchiato etc). Wouldn't recommend the oatmeal unless you like it made with water. And there was too much water which made it quite tasteless. The other options were very good. All in all, a very good choice for a stay in Halifax
