Beautiful peaceful place where you can rejuvenate
Reviewed 16 March, 2020
I booked a three day yoga retreat here with two nights in a private cabin. I had no idea how beautiful this place would be and I was so enchanted with my visit. Even the drive there through tiny winding roads covered with tropical foliage and the ocean crashing on the lava rocks was delightful.
It is a very laid-back casual place and after I am unpacked, I was able to walk the grounds and see the many tropical fruit trees. Then I had my first yoga class followed by a delicious vegan dinner. I am not a vegetarian or a vegan, but all of the food here was excellent.
The next day after morning yoga, took my car and visited some of the local sites. This included Kehana Beach, lava tree State Park, a local farmers market, and the new Black lava Beach only a 20 minute walk from the resort. I was surprised to be able to accomplish so much in just one day but it is possible.
One of the most amazing things was all of the delicious fruit I had never tasted before. Some of it tasted like vanilla custard such as the rollinia and others tasted like chocolate such as the mamey sopate. I felt like I had stepped into a magical kingdom with all of the new things I discovered.
In addition they have a meditation temple and I was able to meditate and read some of the pamphlets on how to meditate while I was there.
Another surprising fact was all the people who came from around the world and different states to stay here. It was so fun to meet them at dinner each evening where we ate together. All meals served as a buffet.
I left feeling very rejuvenated and peaceful. Definitely want to return and will recommend this to many friends.
The only note of caution is to realize that some rooms do not have a private bath and you’ll have to use a shared bath. All of the bathrooms are open to the jungle, which is a little bit unnerving, but you get used to it. Also the frogs and birds are very loud at night, so ear buds might make sense to pack.
Beautiful land and amazing meditation retreat experience!!

I recently stayed at Kirpal for a meditation retreat and had an amazing experience. The land itself is beautiful with lots of fruit trees, a verity of cabins for visitors to stay in and land to camp on. The land felt happy and cared for. Our group enjoyed the visits from some of the animal life and the sounds of the Coqui frogs at night. It’s just a short (and gorgeous) walk from the ocean and some really neat warm ponds. I look forward to coming back here again in the near future! Strongly recommend!
Thank you Kirpal for your hospitality!
Best way to Restart

I have just returned home from a weeklong “Why Vegan” retreat put on by the staff of KMEC. They are an off grid facility using solar power and filtered rainwater. This retreat was all inclusive. There was a variety of yoga/meditation classes morning and evening. There were cooking demonstrations/classes that focused on a vegan lifestyle. Some examples were salad dressing/salad components, soups, meal prep for work and also a workshop on tea infusion that was very tasty and informative. We had coffee, a specialized tea and a large abundant fruit bowl available every morning at 630am. Dining is al fresco style just steps from the cabin(I stayed in the Mango cabin) The retreat also included breakfast, lunch and dinner cooked by some more amazing staff. See attached photos. It was all beautiful, filling and healthy. They would have some meals family buffet style and would plate others. It was really nice to eat together with other retreat members and staff(many of which I now consider friends) They are in walking distance to the newest black sand beach which is down a path of beautiful greenery and mango trees. They have an orchard of many fruit trees and a working greenhouse. They shared plenty of fresh delicious coconuts with us. The starfruit is plentiful and sweet. We had some excursions that were also included. We went to Kehena beach, South Point and Magic Sands beach in Kona. We also went to a nearby town Pahoa, a few times for stops at a natural grocery store and vegan gelato with home made gluten free amazing waffle cones.
They also arranged a group session/discussion with the world famous(and friends of KMEC) “Yoga Couple” Matt and Ash. They led us on a self discovering workshop and truly enlightened all of us. All of the staff at KMEC is talented and can arrange optional Massages and Reiki sessions(thanks Jessica) Im sure there will be more I remember to say after I write this but I would highly recommend KMEC to any and everyone.

this was our second stay at the meditation lodge as we loved it so much the first time we came back. the first time we were in the mango cabin and had a shared bathroom. we really like that experience but our teenagers really wanted a private bathroom so we booked the dragonfly. we loved the screened in porch but missed the open shower. the staff are very friendly but do make sure you read the fine print as this may not be the place for you if you are looking for a traditional hotel experience. if you like tranquility and peace then try this lodge.
