Room was slightly shabby. Wallpaper peeling in bathroom. Petals Restaurant was very disappointing. No table service. No alcohol unless you purchase a whole bottle of wine. Ate at 6:30 p.m. Hotel was full but we were the only people in the restaurant. Would have gone out but too tired from a long drive.

Racist and Deplorable Customer Service; No Wi-Fi

If you’re looking for a hotel with the most racist and poorly trained staff on the planet, then this is the hotel for you. I have traveled all over the world and have never stayed at a hotel where basic morning greetings were never extended. To experience blatant racism is one thing but to pay for a crappy experience and not have Wi-Fi is another. I attended a convention at this hotel a few years ago while it was under construction and the quality of customer service has declined significantly for my most recent convention stay. The food options were extremely limited, the rooms are in great need of repair, and their event staff is untrained. I have severe food allergies and wasn’t given any options to substitute, and was asked if my food allergy was “real” by the events manager. The organization I was with reported thefts of their personal belongings and was offered no solutions. This new management team has seen fit to hire the most racist and rudest college students to save money and decidedly chose to not train them. If you’re looking for the nastiest customer service known to man, upcharging for free hot water, upcharging for low cost items on their menu, and haphazardly making up rules just because the staff chose to be racist, calling and being lied to by the staff that they’re booked when they weren’t, booking rooms at one rate and staff changing the rates at check in or during check out, staff blatantly lying about charges and accommodations offered then knock yourself out. During our stay we were constantly being kicked off the Wi-Fi and being unable to conduct any business during a convention was extremely frustrating. I’ve never been to a hotel that claims to be a convention center and has no business center and such poor Wi-Fi. I am a business owner and had previously considered holding a retreat there based on my experience during renovations before Covid, but after the horrible and deplorable service I received a few weeks ago, I will never EVER patronize this establishment again. It was cold outside for early June and there was no heat in the hotel when you woke up to forty degree temperatures. Requesting blankets and actually getting them was a feat in itself and my overall stay was just terrible. Why this hotel is even still open is beyond me. The fact that food service staff offered certain menu options for alcoholic drinks to white customers and lied and claimed they served no alcohol to customers of color was beyond ridiculous and I’m not even a drinker. I attended a convention and needed receipts for food and their staff acted like they were giving you a major organ just to get a receipt for your meals. Food staff for banquet events regularly served food with their long hair touching plates of food being served on trays. It also seemed they were trained to say they would get back to you when asked about food ingredients but never actually returned with answers. For someone who has severe food allergies that often meant going without because I would be late. Which restaurant doesn’t have a list of ingredients for their dishes to train staff with? Apparently this one. The food prepared by long term staff was prepared well but younger staff just didn’t care. If the restaurant opens at 6am, and you arrive at 10a to eat, why isn’t the waffle iron or grill hot and you’ve supposedly served food since you opened? Bacon and other foods that should be hot was always served cold. Waiting an hour for a waffle whilst watching white customers get served, eat, and leave and you’re on a time constraint was beyond disrespectful. For the quality of food served and the general lack of care shown, it’s not worth it. Save your money, avoid the aggravation and don’t stay here. It’s one thing to experience racism, it’s quite another to pay for inequities and endure daily racist experiences by people who don’t have basic hotel and customer service training and are filthy and ill mannered to boot. If you see this hotel listed RUN, don’t walk in the other direction!

Avoid! management mistakes are a hassle

Short version: Avoid avoid avoid. Incomprehensibly rude service at the Front Desk- nearly an hour of unnecessary wrangling to get settled into a room we'd already reserved and paid for online. After a long day of travel you want to rest and put your feet up- do it at some other hotel than this one. Details: Traveling as a family, we'd booked and paid in advance online for three adults, expecting two double beds. We were given a single bed and the on-duty manager (Mr. Erb) wouldn't switch us to a suitable room, even though many rooms were open- even when we offered to pay for an upgrade out of pocket. Manager said "It's 2021, you know?! Three people might all sleep in a bed" when asked how they could have allocated a single bed for three adults. This was a jaw-dropping inappropriate comment to make to me and my senior citizen parents in the lobby. On top of that, incompetence in the details: e.g. all decaf coffee in the room, no extra blankets, staffer wearing mask below his nose, and the family checking in next to us weren't set up with the crib they requested for their child on arrival. After we went back to the booking site for support, hotel management eventually admitted their mistake and let us change (an hour later!) to the room with two double beds that had been open all along. How embarrassing for RIT to have its name associated with this place.

wrongfully charges $430!

I have stayed here more than once and the last time I stayed, I was falsely accused and charged $430 DOLLARS EXTRA for smoking in the room which I would absolutely never do. I was unable to get in touch with a manager and an email was never returned. I understand hospitality is suffering but to WRONGFULLY CHARGE someone a large amount of money to who is working very hard in times like this is horrifying. I would definitely reconsider if you cannot afford a surprising charge like this. Shameful.

Great Place, Great Staff

We stayed here when we dropped my son off at RIT. The check in was quick and easy, all covid precautions taken. The room was great and comfortable. When we need towel , we just got ne ones left outside the door. There was a problem with WIFI, corrected asap. For the price it was well worth it, and close to the campus. Too bad the pool was closed , but we will stay again .
