Great place to stay and eat
Opinión escrita el 20 de Septiembre de 2021
Stayed here for 3 nights whilst enjoying the Peak District. Was very happy with my choice. Room was excellent: comfortable bed, good shower, decent TV etc. Excellent choice for breakfast and well cooked. As inn is not that close to anything else, we decided to eat here each night. There was a good choice on the menu. All really tasty and largish portions. I tried the curry of the day one evening. It was the closest pub curry that I have ever had to an actual Indian restaurant curry. Also very friendly and efficient staff. Although our room was next to the road, there was very little noise at night. Would happily stay here again.
Lovely rooms and great staff

I can’t believe I’m reading this review down below. I’m a regular at this pub and would say the food and service is amazing. I also know that the path behind the beer garden is the path leading down to the kitchen so it would be a bit unhygienic for a dog to go down their and do their business. I can completely understand where the member of staff was coming from if this is what was happening. I can’t believe someone has taken the time to write such a nasty review when anyone who knows the pub would know that going down the path was the wrong thing to do as it’s private. The field is owned by the people who own the pub which means you were given access and allowed to go up there. Again I would just like to say I felt very welcomed at the pub and the staff were brilliant.
Completely spoiled by a rude, loud member of staff who was NOT dog friendly.

Have been a long standing customer of the Pack Horse and had booked my dad's 80th function there in 2020. Unfortunately cancelled because of the pandemic. Have enjoyed the lovely beer garden, as a nice place to sit, eat out AND take my dog for a number of years.
Tonight have visited with my dad and dog. It was a quiet Thursday evening. We sat quietly in the corner and my dog didn't make a sound. Had a meal and drinks. The young women serving were perfectly professional, although I did hear a debacle at another table, which made more sense later ......
Left at 9pm. Hardly anyone still outside and it was dark. I walked my dog down a gravel path leading away from the car park and between the field and the garden to the rear of the pub garden, raised up and as far as I knew, nothing to do with the pub. Did so before leaving just to see if my dog needed a wee. This is WELL away from people and appears to be open to the public - no gate or signs, whatsoever, to say its a private path. As I walked down with my 81 year oId father, I was appalled to have an older member of staff (only identified by a "southern" accent) starting to shout at us from inside the pub garden and pointing at me as if we were kids, telling us that we needed to get off that path as it only lead to the kitchen. I said I was simply letting my dog have a little walk before leaving. She again shouted and waved her arms saying to get on the field. The field behind IS actually gated and private, which shows how much she knew. She was like a school dinner lady shrieking at kids. I realised that this was the woman who I had heard almost shouting at people at another table earlier.
I am an extremely quiet person who knows how to behave. I am also a responsible dog owner and am very careful about where we walk and not to bother anyone. However, I will not be shouted at by a member of staff at a "dog friendly" pub when I walk my dog well away from the pub garden, behind a stone wall and raised garden -in the dark - when most customers had left. Its infuriating when we see some of the appalling behaviour around us, to be shouted at for nothing in a country pub,
I would not have commented on the food had this incident not happened, but I had a Cajun chicken burger, which was slimy and undercooked. My dad's meal was OK he said. Point being, the food at this pub is standard pub fare, but the setting has always made up for that for me. This has now been completely spoiled and I won't go back as a matter of principle. I know a number of other more professional and friendly country pubs.
If I travel to a pub with outdoor dining, its so I can bring my well behaved dog. I don't expect to be shouted at as if I was one.....
Beautiful food and glorious setting

Came here for a family birthday. Sat outside with the kids. Beautiful views, wonderful outdoor seated area, the place is ACE! What a gem! Lovely friendly staff and great tasting menu. The 6oz burgers were heavenly. Salivating just thinking about them again. Will definitely be back.
