From the moment we stepped out of the airport transport, we knew we made the right choice. Humerto checked us in and made sure we felt right at home. The beaches were near immaculate and the pools made me never want to leave. Even though we did not spend my time in our rooms, they were fantastic. We had a king bed, an ocean view, and double showers in a large, luxurious shower bay. We loved the daily activities with Blue, The Cat, and Red Bull. Our favorite was water cycling, and we wished we would have stayed two weeks to try them all.
The service was excellent, and the drinks were never dry. The workers seemed genuinely happy to be there and to make sure your stay was beyond “good.” Madlyn and Zuny helped us out at the pool while Teo was at the beach side grill and Dania made my wife the best coffee each morning.
The spa gave us something we had never experienced before: hydrotherapy. Each station was a fun and different experience. The bonus relaxation room and foot rub at the end really turned it up to an 11! The massage I had was one of the best ever! Even though we payed report prices, the complementary hydrotherapy made it seem like we got the better end of the deal. I was beyond happy to tip Evelyn and Maria foe their spa services and to thank Cristal and Saidy for their help at the front desk.
My only critique of the whole trip would be the food. It was hit or miss. Sometimes we would have spectacular meals but then the next would just be decent.
We loved the water sports and took out the Hobby Cat three times!
We were so sad to go, but Gabriela, Andeivry, and Starly helped us out with check our and our bags!
Then there is our friend and concierge Wolfan. He made sure we never were in need. He took care of resort advice, Covid tests, room help, and even some Spanish lessons! He truest made our stay seamless, and we were very sad to say bye to him today.
I can’t wait to come back!
Another Great Week at SCC!
Reviewed 24 July, 2021
Just returned from SCC and had another wonderful stay! We stayed in our favorite room (4101, Preferred Club Master Suite Oceanfront Swimout) again. We were traveling with another couple, and we all had a blast.
Once again, virtually every single person that we encountered was absolutely amazing. We had butler service with our rooms, and we loved Steves, Jorge and Oliver. We are fairly low maintenance, but when we did ask for something, they were all over it. This was our second time with Steves, and he is just an awesome person and is great at his job! Also, Abraham at Baracuda may be the best bar waiter I’ve ever seen. He is a machine and will NEVER let your drink get empty.
The food here is very good. Not every dish is an all-star, but some things really shined. Our favorite restaurant was probably El Patio (the margarita cart, tampiqueno steak and flautas were our favorites and Carlos was fantastic), closet followed by Portofino (the lasagna was the table fav), and Bordeaux (the duck confit was great). We also loved breakfast at Oceania (burrito of the mountains!) for the service from Robert/Jesus, the food and the view with a nice ocean breeze.
Since we were traveling with friends, the Master Suite swim out was absolutely perfect. We had a fun game night in the living room, and my wife loved the giant bathtub. The bed was comfortable, and the pillow menu was excellent. Just a beautiful room. If we returned with only the two of us, we would be fine in a PC swimout that isn’t a suite, but it worked great for a larger group.
We have stayed at our share of AI resorts, and this one is definitely one of the most beautifully and well kept. The lobby and view from the lobby are stunning. The pools are clean and warm.
We are not “sit on the beach all day” sort of travelers, but we do like the occasional wall on the beach or splash about in the ocean. When we were here in November 2020, the beach and water were stunning. This trip, however, the water was murky and the full of seaweed. There was not much seaweed collecting on the beach, but there was a lot in the water. This is definitely not the staff’s fault, but may be a factor. Is check around to see what the conditions are like before booking during “seaweed season” if I was a beach person.
PC or not PC?
One of the most common questions I see asked online about SCC is whether or not preferred club is worth it. For us, it is. We prefer Oceana or Rosewater breakfast to the buffet (although the buffet is still very good), the PC check in process is nice, and we love the personal touch of the butler service, especially since Steves, Oliver and Jorge have all been absolutely amazing. However, I have heard the building concierges do an admirable job, as well. So, if those things are not critical to you, I’d save the money.
Beautiful resort and friendly staff

The grounds were perfect and the staff were incredible. We were happy with our overall experience. It’s probably the best service I ever received. I loved the cabana on the beach. Phillpe was a terrific butler, Vanessa was the all star wait staff, and bar staff Francy was amazing. Nestor and Francisco at Rosewater we’re terrific. The seaweed in the water was an issue for us and the smell was frustrating some days. Thankfully we could walk past the murky water and got to clear water eventually.
Our Visit to Secrets Cap Cana
Reviewed 23 July, 2021
My wife and I visited Secrets Cap Cana on July 8 – 14. Check-in was ridiculously long. We had reserved a partial ocean view room that wasn’t ready, despite the fact that my wife tried to call in advance of our arrival. The check in staff preceded to tell us about an upgrade (for preferred guest) to an oceanfront room for additional costs. We later found out that this is a ploy that is used to entice customers to upgrade. After about a 2-hour wait and agreeing to an upgrade that would not be ready until the next day, they showed us to a room that had a courtyard only view. Needless to say the whole experience left us feeling that we had made a mistake choosing this resort. On day 2 we were taken to the oceanfront room. Our butler, Alexis did everything that he could to make our stay as pleasant as possible. He texted us to keep us informed of daily activities and did his best to make sure that we were enjoying our stay. The other staff at the resort were friendly and accommodating. Particularly the staff at the Rosewater Restaurant (Nestor) and staff at the pool. Others that stood out included our room attendant and the receptionist at the Oceana Restaurant. They really went the extra mile to make us feel welcome. We tried to visit all of the restaurants except Himitsu which was closed for maintenance. Overall, the food was good. My wife was not fond of the slow service at the French restaurant; however, we both enjoyed the variety of entertainment which was much better than most of the resorts we’ve visited in the past.
Beautiful resort and amazing people!
Reviewed 23 July, 2021
We traveled as a group of 8 friends (4 couples) July 2021.
The resort is amazing - small enough that you see the same people again at the pool, dinner, shows, etc and it gives a nice vibe.
Angelo Mercedes was our group concierge and he was great! He booked our reservations, helped connect to WiFi, arranged our covid tests and found us everyday to see if we needed anything. He coordinated any maintenance request (dripping AC), housekeeping item and our massages. He would text us with the daily resort activities and check in with us at dinner at the end of his day. We aren’t needy travelers and are pretty chill but was nice to have him coordinate things for us and let us enjoy our vacation!
Every one of the staff were amazing. Pool service was great from Zumi and Martha and others! They all remembered us from day to day and would check to see if we needed anything. They kept our water stocked and would suggest drinks/bring us the drinks of the day with a smile. The drinks were good- we sampled most everything there was!
Food- we had the Steakhouse, Mexican, Italian, hibachi and French for dinner. By far the most amazing was the French restaurant. Their filet and sides are the best! Lunch was often at the barefoot grille (ordered and delivered by the pool service) and was great- burgers, fish tacos and quesadillas were our favorites. Other days we had the seaside grill where we sampled a lot but the best were the chicken burrito, burgers and fish tacos. The buffet and room service were our primary breakfast choices and had a lot to offer. We would see the same staff rotate through different restaurants and they remembered us and would provide us great service- especially Juan Carlos who would bring drinks without even asking!
We did water aerobics and beach volleyball with guests and the entertainment crew- Mr Blue, El Gato and Chicken legs were great!
The beach- lots of reviews about sea grass and it’s not bad at all. I don’t know why people complain about it. The workers clean a lot of it up. We walked down past the Hyatt and into the public beach which were much worse than SCC and smelled much worse. It’s not the best beach I’ve ever been to, the sand is harder or stripped away near the water. But it is beautiful.
The main pool is great. It is large and tiered down towards the beach. The only negative is that you can’t swim from end to end because of the tiers- you’d have to get out to continue to the next pool section. We primarily stayed at the closest section towards the beach which filled up quickly in the morning. It had a great view although the hedges were about a foot too tall to get a great view. Overall, we spent most of our time there and it was great. The pool boys would bring towels down at 9 and set up your chairs/umbrellas for you.
Tips- although not required, we tipped everyone as much as possible. These workers survive with tips and after Covid, need all the help we can provide. Maids, bartenders, waiters/waitresses, cooks, etc. we’re great.
We’d definitely stay there again- I loved the small resort feel and the staff can’t be beat. Thanks again to the SCC staff for the most amazing week - especially our concierge Angelo!
