The hotel is situated on a beautiful sandy beach on the West Coast, gently lapped by turquoise waters and bordered by a tree shaded wooden deck. Much of the Sandpiper's charm and style are attributed to Wayne and Karen Capaldi who run it with meticulous attention to detail without sacrificing the relaxed manner of the Caribbean. Combined with their staff's enthusiasm for pampering their guests, this results in many gue...

The Sandpiper is the most wonderful place to stay and celebrate

Reviewed 27 november, 2021

We have visited the Sandpiper on a number of occcasions before COVID and have always loved it. So much so that I wanted to (belatedly) celebrate my 60th, our daughter wanted to celebrate her 30 birthday there (on the day) and our son took his new wife there on honeymoon... We stayed in October 2021 and had a wonderful time, hosted by the manager Russell and all the Sandpiper team. It was great to see all the familiar faces after the stress of COVID had prevented our visit the year before. The good news is that the hotel remains its brilliant self - doing so many things, so very well - even within all the additional COVID protocols that were in place on the island at the time. Our suite had a wonderful terrace that overlooked the beach. The rooms themselves were spotlesslessly cleaned each day and very spacious. We also had a kitchenette. There was tea and coffee, and the team was more than happy to provide fresh milk in the morning and evening. The bed was extremely comfortable and the room beautifully upholstered. We like the fact that there is no TV - bliss! The bathroom had a big shower and comforable bath. The towels were changed daily and swimming towels are also provided on a daily basis. Lovely 'White Company' toiletries are all replaced as needed. The food at the hotel remains a feature. Whether that is breakfast - which was served rather than buffet style, but always plentiful, varied and well presented - to dinner, with a great choice of daily specials or a weekly 'core' menu - to the wonderful choices for lunch. A favourite for our family was the Blackened Chicken Wrap. It is also dangerous to try the desserts! The brownie at lunch is outstanding and the soufflet at dinner well worth the wait (tip - order at the start of the meal and it will be ready with any other desserts!) The beach continues to impress with its glemaing sand and the well marked simming area and swimming platform. The highlight for our family is the fact that the Sandpiper is one of the few Hotels in the Caribbean that has as 'Laser' dinghy - which was used at least twice a day by our group - at least while we were there... If you are a dinghy sailor then the Sandpiper is a 'must'.... Thanks to all the high tide crew - who also arranged our snorkelling trips and diving for our daughter as one of her birthday treats. Seeing the turtles continues to be a big plus for Barbados and the Sandpiper provdides a great access point. We also had a super time playing tennis every day - on really well maintained and floodlit courts - what a treat! We also used the well-equipped gym most days... was this supposed to be a holiday!!!! The key to the success of the Sandpiper is that the team takes so much care over the little things - from the way that the beachteam will refold your beach towels if you leave them on your loungers over lunch, to the way that the restaurant had fresh milk ready for me in a jug to take back to our room after meals... and the turndown service is done effortlessly when you head out to dinner - those special, pesonal touches that really make a difference. Russell Croney and Wayne Capaldi should be proud of the way that they have managed to keep together a very special team through the COVID crisis. It seems a shame to single out individual stars - since all the team are so VERY good - but for this trip, one star for us was Lamar - who was always quietly and gently anticipating our needs and helping us enjoy the beach, aided by Raheem. In the restaurant David, Jamal and Dave all do an outstanding job - but I was also super impressed by David on the front desk, who on several occasions went above and beyond to make sure that we got all the information and bookings that we needed. Harold and Rose continue to embody the excellence of the team. But really - the whole Sandpiper team is really exceptional. Thank you from us all. This may sound a bit over-the-top... but for our family at least the Sandpiper hits the spot in every way - and in a way that is above anything else we have found around the world in our travels over the last 30 years. Thank you for another wonderful stay and a wonderful set of celebrations! We hope to see you again...

Beach front villa was AMAZING

Reviewed 13 november, 2021

One of the best resort style hotels I have ever stayed in. The Sandpiper is a large family friendly hotel, with everything you need and more. I can see how people quite easily stay here for their entire holiday without leaving the premises. We stayed in one of the oceanfront villas and it did not disappoint! It was huge! The living room area was super spacious and comfortable, and we had a private beach-front terrace with stunning sea views and an outdoor bar and kitchen. The bedroom was tastefully decorated and the bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in! I’m not sure what kind of pillows and sheets they use, but I honestly think they are the finest I have ever slept on. The villa has a separate dressing room which is really great for unpacking and storing luggage, and then there’s a wonderful marble bathroom with double sink and enormous walk in shower, plus free standing bath. Impeccably clean, flawless wifi and air conditioning. I highly recommend booking a villa suite for a very special stay. We enjoyed every moment here. The hotel grounds are vast, with lots of leafy quiet corners, plenty of comfy sitting areas, lounges, multiple swimming pools And spaces to relax. The beach in front of the hotel is stunning with silky soft sand, bright blue water and lots of sunbeams with umbrellas for guests. There are lots of watersport activities available for hotel guests, so you can go out on a boat, go waterskiing, snorkelling, plenty to keep you busy. The main restaurant at the Sandpiper was fantastic! We ate at some of the top restaurants around Barbados and can honestly say that the food at the Sandpiper was probably the best we had. The tuna tartare and the steak were absolute standouts for us. We also loved the breakfasts on offer. We had one room service breakfast on our terrace which was lovely. Almost everything on the main breakfast menu is available for room service which is really nice as some hotels have limited options for in room dining. The buffet and a la cart breakfast in the restaurant was very good also. I loved the options! The service throughout our stay was second to none. We were lucky enough to have access to a personal concierge/butler because we were staying in a villa. We thought everyone we met and dealt with from reception to room service, to table service was very professional and friendly. The location is great. Lovely beach in front and all the way up and down the west coast. Close to hometown shops, restaurants, everything you need. Loved staying at the Sandpiper. Highly recommend! Especially for people who enjoy resort vacations where they can stay in one place and 100% relax.

Fabulous time at The Sandpiper

Reviewed 16 october, 2021

We just returned from our first Covid era holiday - two glorious weeks at the Sandpiper. We absolutely loved it. It’s really perfect in every way. First off, we are not keen on sprawling resorts - who wants to walk a million miles from the room to breakfast, or to the beach or pool? Not us. The Sandpiper is small and intimate, boutiquey and upmarket, yet friendly, accessible and totally charming. The buffet breakfasts are to die for - certainly no need for lunch. The whole dining/bar area is beautifully laid out. There is live entertainment most evenings. And the staff are all wonderful. I can’t remember the names of everyone we met, but they are all friendly, courteous and helpful, from Olenda and the other staff on reception, to Wyatt and the other concierge guys, to Rose, Jamal, David, Mandy, Shawn, Anthony and so many others at breakfast, and not forgetting Harold and all the guys helping on the bar, the deckchair guys and the gardeners. And a quick word to the chamber maid who did such a stellar service for us each day in our room too. Really everyone was superb. I’m just sorry I don’t recall everyone’s names. I enjoy scuba diving and want to make a quick mention to the friendly and expert guys at High Tide, Edwin, Lennie and Rohan. Thanks for some great and memorable dives. If you haven’t been to the West side of Barbados before, everything is spread along a strip of 6 or 7 miles, with the Sandpiper well located more or less in the middle of everything. Make sure you jump on the crazy buses that go up and down between Bridgetown and Speightstown to save yourself a fortune in taxis. Book the main restaurants ahead of your trip to avoid disappointment. We particularly liked Lone Star, The Sea Shed and La Cabane. All in all a fabulous trip. We were really sorry to leave. Stunning paradise with service to match

Reviewed 25 september, 2021

My partner and I stayed at The Sandpiper for 5 nights in September, and we were blown away at every turn. The service was impeccible. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The staff to guest ratio was very high - you were never more than 15 seconds away from the most helpful people you'll meet. The rooms were lovely, and having room service at no additional cost is a lovely touch. Breakfast on our balcony was a real treat. The beach is stunning - crystal clear, calm, warm water and lots of snorkelling in the area. Everything was much better than the busier south of the island. The restaurants nearby are beautiful and the property as a whole is very polished and refined. Our only negatives were that the stairs get slippy when it rains, and the price of the food in the themed nights are quite steep unless you go ALL OUT and eat loads! Do note, the dress code in the restaurant is no sandals/flip flops/sliders, and guests get really quite dressed up, so if you want something more chilled and relaxed - opt for room service or go for a walk to another local restaurant. We loved our stay and it has set the bar very, very high for future travelling. Thank you, Sandpiper.

It was good until an unpleasant incidednt

Reviewed 21 august, 2021

My partner and I stayed here for 2 weeks. Close to Holetown, is next to a very nice beach with corals close to the shore, great breakfast and overall level of service. A limited number of TV's available upon request. Would give it 5*s had the communication from reception etc. been better in the case of a false positive result I received on a lateral flow test towards the end of our stay. The manager, Mr Croney, did come to check the situation upon the initial false positive though did not seem very accommodating. It took us 1+ hours to get the menu for some dinner that night. Next day, I explicitly confirmed with the reception about my PCR being negative as well as requested my partener's result confirmation sent via email. (until then it was communicated to us by the reception staff and doctor verbally). I was assured all is fine and this will be sorted. Instead, the reception informed the restaurant to not let us in for breakfast (???) which required further sorting. It also required multiple follow ups thought the day to get that test confirmation via email. All while trying to catch up on the plans missed the day before due to quarantine. - all could have been avoided with proper communication and management. Outside of this event, the experience was nice even if we found it a bit overpriced.
