We had an great two night stay in July 2021. Although we had missed the hottest weather, and had some rain, the hotel accommodated us wonderfully, with its excellent spa. We should particularly say how much we appreciated the care of the restaurant staff in catering for our allergies, which was exceptional, with special thanks to Amy, and to the chefs.
A Superb facility for chillaxing

Booked for a pre birthday treat for my wife, about a week before our stay
I had arranged with the hotel to organise some flowers and bubbly in our room on arrival, even though this request was short notice less than 48 hours before, they were in the room on arrival, and a superb bouquet
We find this hotel searching web as we wanted somewhere we could just chill out for 3 nights and wished to have swimming pool minimum and away from the madding crowd
This Hotel hit the spot in all areas and the spa facility was really good, spent nearly 2 hours in there each day using sauna, steam room, jacuzzi, pool, left the gym alone as it was very hot weather
The arrival was pleasing, sufficient information provided with regards to facilities, covid implications etc, asked if we wished help with luggage and advised clear directions to the room
Room was very clean and tidy, good size with rear views over gardens and hills and Haytor, bathroom good size with plenty of soaps, gels etc,
As rooms would be serviced on request only, they left a slip for you to fill in and pass to reception if you needed replenishment, also in room was bottled water which would be filled for you and some tempting flapjack in a sealed jar which would be filled each day if you wanted
Service was beyond expectation, when you needed anything service was attentive, i had one service issue during our stay, reported to reception whereby the oversight was corrected immediately, always in hotels advise of your concerns first they nearly always sort in reasonable time frame
We stayed on breakfast and evening dinner rates, and all food was cooked to your liking and very tasty, as we had planned not to move from hotel much we utilised the bar service for everything from lunch bites to cream teas and all were super, the burger high recommended for size and flavour, all foods locally sourced and well worth having the evening meal.
Hotel itself is country house hotel and decor matched what we expected, not sure why other reviews comment as it is not trying to be anything else but a Country Hotel with a fairly new spa facility
So huge thanks to all the team, I have been lucky enough to stay in some top named hotels, and this one exceeds many of them with your unobtrusive but there when needed service, and thanks to the food team and chef and kitchen team, not once had any concern on quality and taste
Look forward to a return visit

This was a birthday trip for my fiance, after using the spa 4 of 5 times before and getting engaged at Ilsington, I decided it would be nice for us to stay the night. (Especially after the last 18 months)
Although restrictions have now been lifted, it was very clear that Ilsington have their guests best interests in mind and still have their screens up in reception and the team are still wearing masks which in this heat we have just had is commendable.
We arrived early and had lunch which our friends, which was lovely, we had sandwiches which were so fresh and they were filled to the brim with filling which is always a plus.
Once we checked into our room we were extremely happy I had booked one of the few rooms with aircon. The room although a little old fashioned was gorgeously clean and items such as remote controls had been sanitized and placed into small bags. The bathroom was sensational and had obviously had a refurb with a large roll top bath (which we didn't use - who baths in this heat).
We headed down to the spa and had a dip in the pool, again all very clean and the pool perfect temp to cool off but not freezing. We then headed down for late dinner, but were met with smiling faces as we had throughout our stay, and had a small snacky dinner as we were still full from lunch, however the food was still great.
Thank you to all the team we loved our stay and will be back!
As good as ever

This was a repeat visit for 5 nights to mark our Golden Wedding. This is a favourite hotel of ours set on the edge of Dartmoor with lovely views. The hospitality is top rate, the staff always helpful and cheerful, the cuisine excellent and allows for dietary requirements: we were provided with a separate GF menu which was fully up to the standard of the regular fare. If you need GF, try the GF cream tea with their own scones - delicious. The hotel has weathered the Covid storm well, all credit to their efforts and commitment, and we will definitely be going again.
Beautiful country hotel

Ilsington is a beautiful, independent hotel in a wonderful location close to Haytor/Dartmoor. Perfect for walking, it is a peaceful location with an amazing spa. We didn't have any treatments but will try to the next time we stay. The restaurant was lovely, good selection of food and well presented, the team there looked after us and nothing was too much trouble. There is a great walk up to Haytor from the hotel, hilly but good exercise. Fabulous views from the hotel garden and even though we only stayed 2 nights, we felt we had a proper break. We would definitely stay again.
