Super holiday in the sun.
We had a super holiday at the Hotel Hermitage & Park Terme in Ischia with our friends. We all really enjoyed everything about the holiday and were blessed with lovely weather. Our rooms were very comfortable and the staff friendly and helpful at all times.
Fabulous views from the restaurant
Wonderful Italian hotel, with friendly, English-speaking staff, comfortable bedrooms, wonderful range of food for breakfast and evening meals. Two swimming pools and plenty of sunloungers. Our first room was opposite the tennis courts and a bit dark as it had shrubs outside the window, so we upgraded to a balcony room on the third floor with a wonderful view across Ischia Ponte. There is a terrace on this floor with stunning views across to the Castello Aragonese. Such a relaxing stay.
Italian Gem
Booked through Fleetway Travel spent a week there in Oct 2019. First impressions were not good. Thought the place looked tired and unloved. However as time went on I realised what an Italian gem this was. Staying in room 56 on the “0” floor we had a lovely view of the gardens and the sea/castle in the distance. The room wasn’t huge but the bed was extremely comfortable and it was peaceful at night. The restaurant was a floor above us so there wasn’t far to walk at meal times. On half board the food and service in the restaurant was excellent. Overall the staff were friendly and very helpful. Location of the hotel couldn’t be better being only about 15-20 minute walk to the shops, port or castle. I know like most hotels some areas good be improved but if you have a holiday booked there fear not you will not be disappointed. I would certainly recommend it.
Very enjoyable Stay
We stayed at the Hotel Hermitage at the end of September/early October. The hotel is in a lovely setting within easy walking distance of the shops, bars and restaurants and the Castle. We found the hotel staff helpful and friendly. The two outdoor pools were lovely; quiet and relaxing with plenty of sunbeds and clean toilet and changing facilities. One pool has the pool bar and, jacuzzi and water fountain, the other one has views of the castle and is the thermal pool. I also tried the indoor spa which has a large jacuzzi pool, sauna and steam room. You will need a robe when using the spa so if you don’t want to pay the hire charge of 3.5 Euros, you could take your own. There are also other areas of the garden where you can sit and read quietly. We needed more pillows when we arrived, so we asked at reception and they were in the room very soon after. The man on reception also gave advice about the local buses. We found the evening meals to be very good, a large selection from the mainly cold buffet selection of salads, pastas, meat, vegetables, the bruschetta was lovely and courgettes were cooked just right! After the buffet selection, there where 3 more courses served to your table, including the dessert choice. The dessert was cake or fruit so not so much choice as we have enjoyed at other resorts but it was still good. The lemon cake was to die for! Although, the breakfast was good we thought it was a bit limited on choice, although the pastries were excellent and barista style coffee was available if you didn’t mind queuing up. We opted for a basic room, so we didn’t know what to expect after reading some of the reviews. Our room was very nice, it was a good size, clean and with a large bathroom and nice balcony with table and chairs and a pretty view of trees/neighbouring gardens at the back of the hotel. The only down side to the room was that it was up and down quite a few steps and was not accessible by the lift, anyway it was good exercise! There is a small gym at the hotel but the carpet needs replacing, I expect this will be done for the 2020 season. There was some entertainment at the beginning of our holiday, a man singing and playing an organ, a variety of French tunes and he also played piano at breakfast time. I think that the hotel lacked another bar/entertainment area but I think most people want to go out enjoying a drink or two in the many bars in Ischia Porto rather than staying in the hotel. There is another conference type room where there was a large screen TV and guests were watching football or playing cards. I think that amount we paid for our holiday offered good value for money, although we thought a bottle of wine with the evening meal was a bit expensive at 22 Euros as we priced it up at a local supermarket.
Location is the only positive
The location is the only positive thing I would rate this hotel on. It is within walking distance of the port and bus station. On arrival we were asked for our passports. We had to ask for them twice over the course of the day because they weren’t finished with them for hours...a little unsettling. After check in I went to reception as we had only one bath towel in our room for two of us. I was initially told to go to the spa to get one myself. With a little more requesting from another staff member one was delivered to us. We had breakfast only one morning. Lots of empty tables which hadn’t been cleared so we cleared one for ourselves. No member of staff came near us to offer us anything bar what was available from the buffet. The rooms are clean but the decor is dated. Moving onto our next hotel made us realize how disappointing and unfriendly this hotel was.
