Hotel San Giovanni

This hotel is in a convenient location if you want to walk to the port, the castle, or the town centers (new or old town) of Ischia. This hotel, as with Ischia in general, is heavily populated with mostly older German tourists. We are in our late 30s and the majority of guests seemed to be 60-80 years old. This place felt a bit like a retirement home at certain times. The hotel has an older but good sized pool and very basic spa. Non functioning outdoor hot tub. No view but a nice garden and park next door. Mosquitoes come out at dusk due to the nature park next door. You get free access to a very small beach about 1/2 mile from the hotel, well kinda. Chairs are free. Loungers are 2 euro. No towels available. The beaches here are fenced off (German influence is obvious) in tiny patches about 10 meters wide for each hotel, bar, etc. This system of fences detracts from the natural beauty. Would have been better to hang out with the local Italians at the bigger, free public beach next door, in my opinion. It is worth it to bus to Maronti for a nice beach. The staff here was mostly good. The lunch/snack at the pool bar was good for the price (5-8 euro). Drinks were ok. The front desk receptionist was fairly helpful but failed to let us know about several important things at check in: how to arrange a shuttle, the fact that towels are not available at the hotel beach or the spa. They also messed up that I paid for included dinner in my reservation and we somehow did not get on the list to get in the hot springs (Castiglione) which was supposed to be complimentary. The shuttle, once we figured it out, to the Castiglione hot spring spa was 5 euro each and wasn’t available regularly (had to wait two hours). The receptionist kept telling us the Castle was free but it was $10. Overall the front desk was minimally helpful when it came to inquiring about activities. Food ranged from ok to pretty good. Omelets available at breakfast. The rest of the breakfast was typical inexpensive Italian hotel i.e. not good. Dinner was very good but they serve it in the basement in a brightly lit room with no music. Felt a bit like a retirement home cafeteria honestly. Overall I would not pay the $15 for the dinners here, you can walk downtown and eat better. They did have one “candle light” dinner with a guest chef that was quite good. They should do candlelight tables every night because the normal basement lighting is harsh. And add dinner music...that would drastically improve the ambiance. The room was typical of an Italian hotel, but with a below average bed. WiFi super slow. Overall I think this hotel is a solid value, but I probably wouldn’t come back here, mostly because the views are too good on Ischia not to stay on the coastline and Ischia Porto didn’t have much in the way of nightlife or shopping to make the proximity worthwhile. Ischia overall is a bit sleepy. Not much to see. Relaxation is the thing here.

Siamo stati 5 giorni e ci siamo trovati bene. Personale ottimo e cordiale, sempre disponibile. La camera era spaziosa e pulita Ambiente tranquillo. Ottima posizione per raggiungere il centro, la spiaggia e il porto.

Mi sono trovata benissimo, pulite le stanze, personale disponibile e cordiale, letto comodo. Lo snack bar in piscina offre dei pasti ottimi, originali, come la bruschetta con fagioli e tonno e ogni richiesta aggiuntiva viene esaudita. Cene eccezionali con varietà di zuppe e verdure. Peccato l’orario della colazione solo fino alle 9.30, in ferie mi piacerebbe ogni tanto dormire più a lungo. Struttura anni 80, ma curata e soprattutto ottimo rapporto qualità prezzo. Organizzazione del Transfer impeccabile. Un cordiale saluto a Valentino e al suo staff.

Ho soggiornato qui, con le mie due figlie, dall'8 al 12 agosto 2020. Partiamo dalle note positive: personale gentilissimo, come tutti gli isolani, posizione ottima. Note negative: - i pasti erano scarsi e di bassa qualità; - al telefono, prima dell'arrivo, mi era stato detto che avremmo potuto fare almeno i massaggi, cosa che, poi, non è stato possibile; - la spiaggia è lontanissima dall'albergo e il servizio navetta prevedeva un costo aggiuntivo di 5 euro, non specificato nella prenotazione. Il terzo giorno, ci siamo, comunque, andati, dopo aver avvisato in reception( non sapevamo neanche si dovesse fare). Ci è stato detto che ci avevano prenotato l'ombrellone, ma, arrivati lì, il bagnino sembrava ignaro e ci ha detto di attendere che si liberasse qualcosa, sedendoci un attimo in ultima fila. Ce ne siamo andate dopo 10 minuti. Insomma, le stanze non sono male ed il personale è gentile, ma non si tratta di un 4 stelle. Abbiamo avuto l'impressione che, dopo il lockdown, abbiano riaperto in fretta e furia, senza avere il tempo di dare una sistemata alla struttura e ai servizi.

Se torneremo a Ischia questo hotel potrebbe sicuramente essere la nostra scelta. Ottimi perché: -posizione: perfetta, all'inizio della passeggiata di Ischia porto ma vicino anche a ischia ponte e al castello aragonese -personale: tutti super gentili e professionali, alla reception, in sala ristorante, la signora delle pulizie. Voglio complimentarmi con tutti perché la gentilezza non sempre è scontata negli alberghi. - la cucina: noi abbiamo mangiato molto bene e abbiamo notato molta cura anche nella gestione dei pasti di nostro figlio che è un soggetto allergico. Forse la colazione si potrebbe migliorare ma credo che il covid ci abbia messo lo zampino. Tutto bene dunque a parte un paio di cose che segnalo più come spunto di miglioramento che critica: -il WI fi mi ha fatto tornare indietro ai tempi delle lotte col 56k.. Potenziatelo un po -la spiaggia: lontanuccia dall'hotel e soprattutto piccola per gestire tutti gli hotel della catena. Super cordiale il Bagnino che seppur napoletano tifa Inter 😅. La navetta 5 euro a persona al giorno è un furto però... Forse se avesse costi più bassi accontenterebbe più persone che la userebbero e anche i turni in spiaggia verrebbero presi con un altro spirito. -le therme. : ok la piscina ma il centro è abbandonato. Fa paura entrare... Penso che anche qui c'entri il covid. Comunque lo consigliamo. Siamo stati proprio bene. Ps:per quattro la camera era un po piccola
