This hotel has a stunning location and a great beach out front. I had seen it many times traveling from Cartagena to the Islas del Rosario by boat. A group of us went and I was utterly disappointed. The worst part by far was the service. Everything felt like a negotiation and no one was willing to go out of their way to assist. I think it is simply the custom of this hotel, or perhaps an all inclusive, that they then nickel and dime you on everything not clearly within the packet. There is a main restaurant where the food is mediocre at best and incredibly crowded. There are two extra restaurants (italian and seafood - the seafood place was good!), but you have to get u pat 6 am each day to try to make a reservation at these nice places, otherwise you have no choice but to go to the general buffet restaurant. Certain types of food would also run out early. I think all in all the type of service one receives is a product of the place being an all inclusive. There are so many amazing hotels in Cartagena or on the Islands (I don't know Baru that much), that are not all inclusive, but the food and drinks are great. Lastly, I think the hotel facilities were probably top of the art in the 1990's, but they are clearly not anymore. I have no doubt COVID meant the hotel made little investment in the property since the pandemic, but it really shows. Overally there are so many great places in the area to stay, where one would spend much less money and get much greater service and food/drink quality, that I do not know why someone would spend sooooo much money at this place. The cost is incredible, but it is far from 5 stars.
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE PLEASE READ THIS !

If you want to experience driving on a dangerous dirt road in Afghanistan, go here. My family arrived at 1:30pm, but security would not let us pass the gate to the lobby. It was 102 degrees with no shade. We told them we respected their check in policy of 3pm but all we wanted to do was to sit in the lobby, get a glass of water and go to the bathroom. They told us NO because of COVID restrictions. They told us that the lobby was too crowded with too many people too close together. There was another family waiting with 2 toddlers that looked like they were going to pass out from heat stroke. They didn't care. After 45 mins of arguing with management they said we could enter if we paid an additional $40 per person !! Apparently COVID disappears when you pay them more money. The food was horrible on top of the fact that you could only get food between specific hours during the day. We were harassed all day and night by time share sales people. The beach is small and crowded. NOT worth the price you pay ! The response from Decameron to this post will be automatically generated via AI. There is no human that actually reads these postings. It will start by saying, thank you for staying with us, blah blah blah..... corporate BS. If you still go, I warned you.

We have been to several all-inclusive hotels in Mexico and Costa Rica before and expected a similar experience. Were we wrong. I will go ahead and say that we live in Colombia and speak decent Spanish to get by. If you don’t speak Spanish don’t expect anybody to be able to help you out at this place. The first red flag was out transportation to the place. We had stayed at a friend’s house on Barú the night before and were about 25 min away. The hotel said our only option would be to go back to the airport and be picked up from there. Ok, we thought we were asking a bit much and we were out of the way. When we got there we realized we had left out phone chargers at our friend’s house. Not a big deal, right? Wrong. There is no place on the property to buy one, nobody would let us borrow one for a couple of hours and guess what they told us our only option was - you can get a ride to the airport and get one there. There is no kids’s club and the music was blaring in front of our room until 10pm every night. The list of issues goes on and on the last one being the fact that nobody picked our suitcases from our room though we talked to the front desk and confirmed pick up an hour prior to our departure. I will say that all the staff working on the property is friendly and helpful but the idea of customer service hasn’t made its way to this resort.
