More about the hotel
Waste of money and time
We stayed at the emporio for two weeks and I wished after the 3 days I had picked something else. There was soooo much noise you could never get away from it. One of the previous comments was true they do cater to the locals and it’s nothing for them to snub you. We had some great people on staff they were just few and far between. Julios-bellman Anibar- Main dining room Franchescio. Pool waiter Carlois.-events coordinator Towel staff Our floor maid tried hard but she was so busy we were always left missing things like water( one bottle a day) facecloth, the sink and shower were never cleaned but she always received a tip. The food is all the same Mexican food unless you have eggs everyday. You can be standing in line and the other patrons will jump in front of you and servers will wait on you. One day we were in a cabana and the waiter walked by 3 times with his head down and me saying excuse me. So I went up to the bar myself and he waited on everyone but me. I had one drink that day took way to long and this type of service was everyday. If you weren’t from Mexico then forget about good service. We were so happy that the town had so many places to eat: Deborah’s and the generals were best Remember there is stores behind the the Main Street. I will definitely I back to ixtapa but never to Emporio
Best place in Ixtapa
My husband and I have just returned from the Emporio and it was one of our best trips to Mexico. The pros: Our daytime bartenders Eduardo and Alberto were EXCELLENT. Although the hotel ran out of the top shelf drinks we like, they made every effort to get us the next best thing. Always friendly and smiling and willing to let me try my Spanish. Aurelio in the Italian restaurant was the best server we've ever had. Very attentive and wiling to chat. The food there was good too. Then for nightcaps, Rafael made some awesome drinks for us. The beach, of course, was amazing and we were always guaranteed a chair. The cons: front desk staff weren't the most friendly and not very accommodating. One bottle of water a day was all we could get in our room without paying 20 pesos for extras, even with being all-inclusive. I suggest buying extra water off resort (which is easy with the proximity to the markets and shops). Overall, we had a great time with the small size of the resort. Our room was clean and bright. We would definitely return to this resort.
Under construction noise nuisance
We have been here for a week. However the hotel failed to inform us they would be under construction. We have not been able to rest comfortably during our stay. The construction starts very early, into late afternoon. If you want to enjoy your vacation and get some peace and quiet time you have to go outdoors (in the humidity and heat) to find somewhere to spend the day. I am sure after they are done, the hotel will be nice, it’s not a bad hotel but does need a lot of maintenance. Here is a list of issues we encountered since we arrived: 1. Arrived to dirty linens 2. No phone line 3. No hot water. (Had to shower with cold water most of the week) 4. Water leaking condensation from ceiling (they have fixed 3xs, however still having to wake up to wet slippery floors in the middle of the night. 5. Keys (both) have gotten deactivated almost everyday. 6. No warnings about all the construction noise. (Horribly loud!) i would really like a refund, I paid to stay in a good place to enjoy the peace and quiet of a vacation NOT to stay in a crazy loud construction site!!! Even closing the door does not help! (We are supposed to stay at the Emporio Zacatecas in a few months, however, I will have to re-think my hotel stay) Even with all this, I would have given them at least a 3 star review if I felt they cared about our concerns. The staff is very nice but does the front desk does not do enough to make up for the bad experience!
Nice Holiday
My husband and I stayed the last 2 weeks in January. Great location, comfortable king bed, very clean room. Friendly staff, however hardly any English spoken. Palapas on the beach available most days before 10 am. No balconies, so difficulty drying wet bathing suits. Fantastic bike paths around the hotel; we rented bikes at a shop across the street (behind Salamander). Cost was 60 pesos for 1 hr per bike. Room amenities included shampoo, conditioner and body lotion. Many families with children. Very safe to walk in the evening. We ate at the hotel and restaurants across the street. Enjoyed Italian at Sabrina's and burghers at Reubens. The hotel buffet was mainly Mexican and good, not great. Some days we couldn't swim in the ocean because of the huge waves.
Sick, sick, sick!
We had the worst week ever with stomach cramps, diarrhea, and dehydration. Couldn't wait to get home! Got results back from the doctor and found out we have a severe case of e coli bacteria as a result of contamination. Don't drink the water! The weather was very nice, the water warm, the beach lovely but the hassle from the locals selling goods, the lack of lounge space, the busyness from local families staying there, loud pool-side music, the food mediocre and the hotel only a 2 star at best, we would not recommend this hotel.
