Stayed for 6 days 30 July-5 August, they offered a good price for a room with good view, they have a central location, close to the sea, bars, and old city. Professional & friendly team, always responsive and ready to help. Clean rooms, good maintenance all over the place.
All you need is there
The service was outstanding, very friendly and polite. I really enjoyed the special Turkish breakfast. I just can recommend this hotel because it’s close to the center. If you come by car, you should use the parking service from the hotel.
Stay but don’t Sleep
Well the hotel is very near the sea front walkway The building is modern as well as the interiors The breakfast has a lot of choices as usual But although the room was large and well decorated the mattress was incredible bad, you keep the marks of the springs in your body The pillows weren’t also good It’s a pity
Movenpick hotels are reliable the world over for their high standard. Izmir was no exception, however, there were a few little things missing. One was tissues in the room. Only a small thing but in a 5 star hotel one would expect the “little things”. There was no wine glass in my room and had to get one from the dining room. The dining room had lots of staff but they just stayed around the buffet and if you wanted coffee you had to attract a waiter’s attention. But on the upside, the room was very comfortable and the position of the hotel on the waterfront was a winner!
My wife and I stayed here for 1 night in April 2019 as part of a 7-day bus tour focussed on biblical and historical sites in Turkey. As the hotel was pre-selected by our tour company, we really had no say in its choice. It was chosen (I believe) for its proximity to 3 archeological sites on our tour (Sardis, Smyrna and Philadelphia) and its luxury/amenity level (high enough to satisfy foreign tourists.) The property is certainly located in an opulent part of town. Driving in, we were struck by several consecutive blocks of high-end bridal shops just before we reached the hotel. Check-in was very fast but our tour group leader was extraordinarily organized in that respect, credit to both her and the hotel. The lobby gave a good first impression of the hotel’s luxury level, but as we made our way to our second floor room we felt overwhelmed by the odor of perfumed cleaning agents in the wet hallway carpet. Our room likewise reeked of the same smell. Knowing it would make us sick if we lingered in it too long, we beat a hasty path to the dining hall. Our tour included buffet dinner and breakfast at the hotel and both were fine. Nice ambience, great selection and excellent quality. No complaints at all about the food or the service. When we returned to our room, the smell had thankfully subsided to a level we could live with. The room was uncomfortably warm but not much could be done. The windows didn’t open and like most hotels in Turkey, this one appeared unwilling to run AC during non-summer months. The room carpet was stained in places (reminded us of the Movenpick in Petra, Jordan) and the wifi was slow. Outside of those complaints, the room was nice. The furnishings were nicely appointed and the king bed quite comfortable. The room had all the amenities we could possibly want on a 1-night stop: adequate space (no feeling of squish), nice work desk, comfy sitting chair with ottoman, good lighting, flat screen TV (didn’t have time to watch it), spacious dresser drawers, kettle with china cups and tea service, and mini-fridge. The bathroom was likewise appealing: lots of space, sparkling clean, nice fixtures, spacious vanity on which we could both spread our stuff. Water was hot and pressure was fine. The view out the window onto the street below was pretty ordinary but on a hectic tour like ours we valued room comfort far more than a great view. With a few tweaks this could be a really excellent stopover hotel deserving of a 5-star rating. But due to the flaws mentioned in this review, especially the reeky perfume, we had to knock off at least 1 point. We therefore award the Movenpick Hotel Izmir a rating of 4 stars out of 5. We’d certainly consider staying again.
