DO NOT STAY AT THIS MOTEL
Re: Holiday Inn Express & Suites, 1923 S. Jackson St Due to the mandatory evacuation from DeRidder, LA because of Hurricane Delta, a family member (Aaron Grant) reserved 10 rooms for our family and friends at the Holiday Inn Express in your city. We were treated like second class citizens. FYI--we evacuated to Athens, TX earlier per Hurricane Laura that crushed our city and we were treated with utmost kindness and generosity at the Best Western Inn in Athens, TX. Here are some examples of how we were treated at Holiday Inn Express in Jacksonville: (1) Confirmed email reservation stated that a room with 2 queen beds would be $84.99 + 13% tax. When we checked out we were charged $94.99 for the first night, $99.99 the next two nights, + 13% tax each night. When I mentioned this to the lady who checked me out she told me there was nothing she could do about this. It appears they charged each family this additional price. (2) Individual Keurig coffee pots were in the room and we were given one free K-cup per day and charged $1.25 for any additional K-cups. (3) I had to ask 3 times during the day to get additional hand towels and was told they were washing and it would take about an hour for them to be available. My niece had her husband and two children in a 2 queen room and was issued only two washcloths and it was an act of congress to get more. (4) When my sister-in-law checked out she discovered they had charged two nights on another family member's credit card and was told, "I cannot do anything about that." My sister-in-law called the manager, today (10-12-20) and was told the same thing and the manager hung up the phone. I could go on and on but I think you get the idea. As if the hurricane worries and destruction were not enough, we had to deal with being treated like second class citizens. I feel sure the unkindness and trying to take advantage of evacuees financially by this business establishment does not speak for the entire city of Jacksonville but you should avoid this motel
Evacuation
Everything was great! Helped us find a place for our dog to be boarded. Right down the road from the hotel so we could go visit her. A very pleasant stay until we could return home. One employee even offered to keep our dog at her house the first night until we could find a place to board her. Definitely our go to place if we have to evacuate again.
Fantastic stay
When I arrived, the front desk staff was very friendly and made the check in process super easy & fast! My room was clean, & I love the extra provisions they are taking because of covid!! Breakfast was okay, nothing special, but so glad to see all the hand sanitizer stations threw out the hotel!! We will be back! My kids truly enjoyed them self’s! 💜
2nd Stay in 5 months. Couple of disappointments
I stayed at this property last September and had no issues. Clean room, friendly staff, etc. So when I had another meeting in Jacksonville, TX, I again had my church treasurer book me here. First thing that was different was, while the reservation was made the same way as last September, with the same card, and paid in advance, I had to provide a card for “incidentals” this time (I travel on church business several times a year all over)- a pre-charge of $50 that will be “returned to the card after my stay). What incidentals? There’s no drinks in room, no room service. What am I pre-paying for? What are they calling “incidentals”? Second disappointment- I rarely even bother to turn on a TV in a hotel room. But impressed the power button on the remote and the screen came on to show a sex scene with a woman’s fully-exposed breasts. I have no idea what channel it was on (I just pressed the power button to turn it back off) but not exactly what I expected or wanted to see. That being said, room does again appear to be clean and in-order.
Rude people
Very hateful people run this place. I have never stayed at a Holiday Inn that was rude as these people are. Everyone working in this place has an attitude mad at the world. Need to find a friendlier manager maybe the help would be better.
