Red Hot Deal means you get the smoker's room
My husband is traveling across the U.S. for business. I reserved a room on the Red Roof Inn Chicago Joliet website. They offered a Red Hot Deal rate and I reserved that for him, as he would be arriving late and would only be staying the one night. The Hotel website states they are 100% Smoke Free. That is a lie. I called ahead after making the reservation and informed the front desk man that my husband would be arriving between 10:30 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. and to please not give his room away. The man stated he would be there at that time and would make note of it. When I spoke again to my husband this morning, he stated that he arrived at 11:00 p.m. and that when he entered his room, it reaked of cigarette smoke and was filthy. He said he asked the man at the front desk if his was not supposed to be a smoke-free room and the man agreed, but said that was all they had available right then. So, my husband, being tired from a long day of driving, went back to the room. He said that the thermostat didn't work in the room and that he tossed and turned but that by 2:30 the heat in the room and the fact that the mattress and bed sheets reached of smoke, he just couldn't take it any more. My husband has a smoke allergy, so this just compounded the problem for him. He gathered his things, approached the front desk at 2:30 in the morning and there was no one around. He left. When we spoke this morning, and told me what had happened, I told him I'd contact them for a refund. After waiting on hold, and speaking with the front desk in Joliet, they patched me through to Guest Relations and they are requiring my husband to call in before they'll issue us a refund, which he will do, but he'll have to make a stop on his trip to do so. I chose this location for my husband because of the great 4/5 reviews on Trip Advisor. Please be aware that this location is not 100% Smoke Free as advertised, is filthy, the Red Hot Deal means you get a smoker room (even though your statement will say Smoke Free) and that they will hassle you over a return - $53.23 with tax.
Pleasant Experience
I had a good stay at this location during my road trip. I was greeted very professional and friendly when I checked in. The clerk was quick and efficient and also offered water bottle since I am a member. To my surprise the room I stayed in had a microwave and small fridge and also the room was clean. Good location and of course was very pocket friendly.
Great Stay
Staff was very nice and friendly. Rooms are also reasonable priced and clean. Hotel is located right of the interstate for easy access. The room that I stayed in had a microwave and fridge which was helpful and convenient. I will be be definitely coming back when in the area again.
stolen items
I left my watch at the property during my stay and called the same day to have them locate my watch. I called back the same day to report my watch was stolen and they reassured me that my watch was at the front desk and I can come pick it up. I called a week or two later (due to my brother passing away during that time) and no one has any history of my watch being found or located at all. talked to everybody at the front desk including the general manager and was told my watch is no longer at the desk! this property steals guest items and act like nothing ever happened!!!!! PLEASE BE AWARE! i am in talks with their corporate office and BBB! PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS PLACE! THEY ARE THIEF'S!!!!!!
Cheap is cheap
You get what you pay for is all I can say. I wasn’t expecting a Hilton at this price but it’s definitely a no-frills motel. The room appears clean and has fresh paint but it is small. It smells a little too much of cleaning products but there was no smoke smell. There is no hairdryer so come prepared if you need one. I had issues with our door. The seal is totally loose and you can see outside through the crack. I wondered about bugs coming in through the crack. The bedspread is getting tattered also. The AC is loud and while it cooled it didn’t take care of humidity. On the positive side, it was quiet, the bed was good and it’s conveniently located near the interstate. The evening front desk fellow was courteous but very busy as he was the only one checking folks in and answering the phone. When I went to check out in the morning, I asked to have the $1.50 safe fee removed and was told it had been. I could tell it hadn’t been and pointed that out and she insisted it was. I wasn’t going to quibble about $1.50 with someone who obviously doesn’t know how to read a bill so I let it go. That’s probably how they get the extra $1.50 on all the rooms. For an overnight stay it was ok but next time I will look elsewhere. P
