All Good Except..... The Road Noise

Reviewed 30 june, 2021

This IHG property is fairly small for a HI Express. Our room was modern, clean, and comfortable. The breakfast buffet is standard HIE fare, but in COVID/post-COVID times where other hotels have significantly scaled back their breakfast offerings (yes Marriott - I am talking about you), this HIE breakfast was really quite good. Parking is ample and the location is convenient to everything in the Cumberland Gap area. The bedding was comfortable, and we would have had a nice night's sleep if not for all of the traffic noise throughout the night. There is a traffic light in front of the hotel, and all manner of redneck cars, trucks and those 18-wheelers engine braking kept us up most of the night. FUTURE TRAVELERS BEWARE: SELECT A ROOM ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE HOTEL, AWAY FROM THE ROAD, or maybe just wear ear plugs? I would have provided a 5-star rating for this hotel had it not been for the rough night's sleep due to the adjacent road noise. Oh, and one more minor thing... this hotel offers small toothpaste packets, toothbrushes, deodorant, etc... when you forgot yours like most hotels of this class. The toothpaste packets I received had expiration dates of 2018 and 2019 stamped on them. Just be on the lookout.

Great Location for the Cumberland Gap National Historic Park

Reviewed 22 june, 2021

Nice HIE with comfortable bed and adequate breakfast. This area is recommended, if you would like to avoid the crowds destroying the National Parks this summer. The surrounding mountains are beautiful and you get to avoid the over commercialization of Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. Don't miss the POW memorial traveling in for the east trough Tennessee. If is a scenic pull off with great views of the valley and lake below. It is patriotic and a great memorial to the soldiers who have died and those who have served protecting the freedom of the USA.

Comfortable and Convenient

This is a very nice and up to date hotel. It is very clean and comfortable, and is just a few minutes away from Cumberland Gap park. It is also very near restaurants. This is a nice property in Middlesboro.

Loved it

The hotel itself is clean and nicely maintained. The room was comfortable, spacious, and nice. The breakfast was outstanding. The staff was super friendly. When we are back this way, we will stay here again.

Safety first for our pandemic-era road trip

Reviewed 25 july, 2020

We stayed at this hotel on a road trip back home to New England. I chose to stay at three different Holiday Inn Expresses along the way, because the chain had publicized their safety practices. I wasn't disappointed at this location. The front desk staff (wearing masks and behind a plastic partition) was very friendly and open to questions. Hand sanitizing stations were visible in many locations, including one inside the elevator! The public areas and our room were very clean. The elevator and the lobby also had social distancing marks on the floor. This location was actually serving breakfast, as opposed to setting out bags with pre-wrapped food like at other locations. I was a little skeptical, but basically we went to the window and told the staff what we wanted. They brought it to us in a take-out container for us to eat in our room, so it worked out. They were wearing masks and gloves. Everything was decent for a hotel breakfast (Denver omelet, crisp bacon, sausage and gravy, warm cinnamon rolls), and the coffee was nice and strong. The pool was also open here, but we didn't get a chance to check it out. Also, we had inadvertently left a couple of things in our room at checkout. The front desk staff called us (I wouldn't have noticed until much too late) quickly enough that we were able to turn around to retrieve it. It was definitely a nice experience, and if we're ever back in the area, I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
