Simple, nice, great location

I rented the cheapest room available and was surprised by the spartan setup: Tiny room with no closet or dresser (just hooks on the wall), no phone or clock, no desk or table other than the two nightstands, small tv, noisy but effective window a/c, no room in the bathroom for even modest toiletries. I didn't care for the tile flooring that gets slippery with wet feet, but that seems to be common in FL. The bed was a little soft for my taste. The small fridge, microwave and coffeemaker are nice amenities. I arrived late at night and the management left my keys in the mailbox out front.:), and checking in and out were pleasant and friendly experiences. The parking surface is unpaved and spaces are not delineated, so I just parked however worked for me. I really enjoyed direct access to the bayside shore which was very peaceful.
A Little Piece of Heaven

This place was an extremely nice surprise just coming from the hustle and bustle of Key West . The location had a beautiful view of Florida Bay. It had a few piers with chairs at the end of them to watch the beautiful sunsets. The bay was calm and the atmosphere was like being on a quiet lake. Everyone was friendly, both guests and staff. You could check out canoes or paddle boards at the front desk for a couple of hours at no charge The rooms were comfortable and had all of the amenities that you needed. You just have to leave a form of id and sign your life away...lol. You must go to Snooks on the Bay, just a few doors down. The best seafood we have ever eaten. The key lime pie martinis are amazing. Mrs. Macs for breakfast is right next door. They have breakfast specials that come with a free mimosa. If we ever go back to the Florida Keys I will definitely be back to the Pelican Cottages.

I'm so glad I didn't let the negative reviews keep me from booking this gem! We stayed in the King Waterfront Suite 2nd Floor. When we were walking to our room, I was disappointed to see the patio didn't face the ocean. But, when we got in the room, I found out that the view from our bed more than made up for that. Had coffee on the beach instead of the patio. Even better! The room had cold AC, and the bathroom was beautiful. Everyone I dealt with on the staff was very friendly and helpful. I emailed a couple of times before the trip with questions. They were answered immediately. The private beach was relaxing, and kayaking was so much fun. If you're looking for a 5-star experience, keep looking. If you want to stay in a friendly, low-key spot with good restaurants, and stores within walking distance, give this place a try.
Idicic location but let down by air on

The concept of the cottages is great. The beach front is lovely with access to snorkelling and kayaks. Ideal location to find food locally. Staff were polite and helpful The room was small but adequate. It was severely let down by the very noisy air conditioning. We had a choice of either trying to sleep with the noise or trying to sleep in the heat. Neither worked for us. After a sleepless night I asked about upgrade but apparently all the rooms have the same air conditioning units so we had no choice but to check out without a refund for our second night.
Beautiful location with beach and sunset pier.

Great location with nice beach an sunset pier. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. Very friendly service. We stayed on our way to key west and changed our travel schedule on the way back because we really enjoyed staying at the pelican. Highly recommend!!!
