More about the hotel
Great Facilities, Lovely Staff
I recently stayed at Wing 2 at Sand Dunes Chaolao with my family. I was very impressed with the reservation staff, Nan, who helped finding the right rooms to suit our needs -- something that is lacking in online reservation. When we arrived, the check-in and bell staff were very efficient and friendly. The rooms were very nice, comfortable and overlooked the pool and the sea. The service is great.
Could be a four star.
If you dont have to wait 35 minutes for your room to be ready. If there was a comfortable chair in the room instead of two straight backed ones. If the golf cart wasn’t out of order after dinner to take you back to your room 100 meters away. If the cushions for the lounges at the pool were available instead of having to lie on hard wood. Very hard wood. The cushions and pillows were stacked up and wrapped in plastic covering even though it was a sunny day. All day. If the food was more than just OK at the pool side restaurant. The power failure was not the fault of the hotel but it’s still a long way down from floor 8. If the fifth floor rooftop bar that is listed actually was open. If the massage was actually available as listed. Overall this is a nice enough place but it just needs to address some of these minor issues that perhaps individually are not important but that cumulatively add up to a sometimes frustrating stay.
Good hotel, present stay
1st family trip after lockdown, we arrived pretty late, night shift staff are helpful and friendly. The hotel got SHA (The amazing Thailand Safety and Health Administration) certificate which means they could provide safe service for the guest. We stayed in Superior corner room (no. 1612) with 1 double bad and 1 single bed. The room is clear and well maintained, I give 5/5 for the cleanliness. A view from my room is quite good, seaview+partial pool view. A breakfast buffet start from 6-10am, the food is fine, they have Thai food, Western food, Dim Sum, Miso soup and so on. Overall, it's good value for money, family-friendly accommodation, highly recommend.
Sand Dunes Chaolao Beach Resort
Best Resort in this area.Good Breakfast and good service 👍You should book in advance to get a room facing sea.Children love this place for swimming.Restaurant near beach is under renovation.Overall a good place. There are many good Thai food restaurant near this hotel esp Yayi Tu is a good one to try.Roads are good curvy and was a good driving experience.Careful when going down the hill some trucks come off the lane .
Foreigners not welcome
We had booked the hotel last Sunday and gotten an instant confirmation. Today, less than 24 hours before our arrival, I received an email from the booking agent that the hotel now decided to cancel our booking because of their internal policy related to the Corona virus. Until now there is no reference at the hotel's website that there are any restrictions. It is now everyone's guess whether there could be a relation to a deleted Facebook post of a Thai Government Official who had listed our home country as risky. Though it had been subsequently clarified that this is not the case with the Thai Embassy even issuing a press notice to clarify the situation, it seems that the hotel had not received this clarification. So in any case, if you come from a country that has some Corona cases already, better look for a different hotel to avoid complications when you are standing at the reception counter after you did not read your emails on the flight..
