Shirley’s Retreat Review

My husband and I stayed here for 3 nights while returning from Montego Bay. The hotel is great if your looking for a decent place just to shower and sleep. For we were on the road and with family majority of the time. Comfortable bed and fresh towels daily. Continental breakfast was good but you don’t have any choice in what it is. So whatever they have for that day then that’s it.
The place is Just OK.

The place is Just OK. The rooms are small and breakfast have very limited options. Bathroom are not that clean. Very basic setup and the place have very strange smell. Staff is polite and helpful. The location of the property is good.

I booked with expidia for this stay. Upon arrival the room I had booked was the family room, I questioned why I wasn’t in that room and was told it was due to someone being in the adjoining room. I contacted expidia and they were informed that I was upgraded due to the AC not working. I was traveling with my mom and son (2.5 years old) and I felt that this was not a place for my son to stay as this is more of an adult place to stay. One of the main issues I had aside from not being in the room I specifically booked was that if my son didn’t want what was included with the continental breakfast I would have to pre order the night before...he is under 3 and that just doesn’t work, although he was offered a sausage instead of scrambled eggs. Basically he ate toast for breakfast. The staff I interacted with were kind. I decided I needed to move to a more child friendly hotel as were spending a lot of our stay in Kingston at the hotel. Expida tried to get me some sort of refund and was denied. I walked away paying 4 nights and only stayed 1 night. Overall I was disappointed.
A solid 3-star

This is a decent hotel for the price. A/C in the room, comfortable bed, cordial staff. Some cons: zero hot water pressure in the morning (apparently when everyone want shower) and no milk or half&half for coffee at breakfast (only condensed milk or powdered creamer). The included breakfast was okay (eggs, fruit, toast) other items were available for an up charge. The shower was fine in the evening and the room was clean. I can’t see rating this hotel higher than this three stars.
Lovely little boutique hotel on quiet street

Stayed here for 4 nights in June 2018. My brother was in a Kingston hospital and my family came down to support him. The Shirley Retreat team could not have been more welcoming and accommodating!! All were so friendly and constantly checking in with us and asking how my brother was. The place was cleanbed was very comfortable and the included breakfast was hearty and delicious. Eggs, toast, fruit and veggies with a glass of fresh juice. Thank you for a lovely stay!
