BEWARE - CANCELLED BOOKING FOR NO REASON - AVOID
Booked this hostel some weeks ago as part of a forthcoming C2C attempt - was careful o check with owner that it was available as it was for the busiest Saturday in July. Weeks later I get an email saying the reservation is cancelled - no reason given - totally unacceptable and now Kirkby Stephen is completely booked - totally undermines the whole C2C schedule - totally disgraceful / unprofessional - extremely annoyed - at least have the courtesy to call and explain! AVOID OR RISK DISAPPOINTMENT...
Lovely Christmas stay
Even though we didn’t meet the owner, we had a very friendly and flexible welcome. The hostel is quite a magnificent space for families. The main room has a huge space, we used it for flying paper aeroplanes from the balcony! We will be returning as there is so much more to explore in the area. Thank you very much.
Great place to stay if doing Coast to Coast walk
We arrived and let ourselves in we had an eight bed room assigned to us although there were only five of us. Clean and adequate in the style of the old youth hostels, hot shower, and comfortable bunk beds. Very quirky as its a converted Methodist chapel. The owner Denise arrived at 7 am and started breakfast for us, the breakfast was one of the best we had on Coast to Coast walk over 12 days. Denise is lovely and she looked after us at breakfast as much toast and tea and coffee as we wanted. If you are walking Coast to Coast you must stay here.
Fantastic Value accommodation, wonderful breakfast
This is the place to stay for any walker contemplating the Coast to Coast walk or just visiting the Yorkshire Dales. We always stay here, right in the centre of town and just minutes from open country. The owner is a wonderful woman and nothing is to much bother for her to make your stay a real pleasure. The hostel is full of history, with great places to eat or drink a few feet away. Really recommend this experience
Great Hostel
I really enjoyed my stay here and felt at home as soon as I arrived so ended up staying 2 nights. The building is really special and the atmosphere, even with the reduced numbers due to Covid was good. Denise the owner was fantastic and very helpful. Great location and perfect stop off point on the C2C.
