Great hotel in center of town

The Albert is a great hotel in the center of town within walking distance of restaurants and shops. The staff are wonderful even though, like many places, they are short of good help in all areas. We arrived mid morning in a minor rain storm having taken the early ferry from Thurso. We had warned them of an early arrival and we assumed that we could leave bags and walk around before checking in. Luckily our room was ready and they allowed us to check in early, drop our bags and take a short nap before lunch. Room was clean, well furnished and had things like coffee makers etc. However, no USB charging ports which is unusual for a modern hotel. No big deal since we carry everything needed. Room was on first floor and they have an elevator if, like us you carry too much and are getting on in years. Great bar that was only open on the weekend - due to staff shortage I expect. Excellent restaurant with a good selection as well as daily specials. DOO BOOK though since being one of the best places in town it does get busy. Wait staff are super helpful and allowed us to just sit and drink in a corner nook. Breakfast was served in a small area by another hard working waitress that never seemed to stop! Great selection of continental or cooked breakfasts, coffee tea, juice etc. We had a big issue leaving. We were taking the late night (11:30pm) ferry to Shetland and had booked a taxi to take us to the port 2 miles away, 10:45 and no taxi. The restaurant was still open clearing up from a large party and they immediately called for a cab which arrived in less than 5 minutes and got us to the ferry in time. OK, in reflection I may have mistakenly taken one of the guests taxis, so I apologize if I did!!! I will not hesitate to stay here again if I am in the area.

Amazing food, Fair prices Staff were very nice. Very welcoming Be sure to return. Look at staying there for accommodation in the future. Kirkwall is very expensive in most ways. But this place beats them for sure Thanks guys

We stayed here for a couple of nights in August 2021. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The rooms were clean, comfortable and quiet. The breakfasts were very good. The evening meals in the restaurant were also very good with huge portions.

Lunch Treat!!!

My mum took me for lunch today in the Nuek and oh my goodness, what a treat!! It was absolutely delicious. We were both really full after our main course ..but of course we managed to squeeze in a pudding to share. Five stars all the way!!! Thank you team Albert. We will be back.

Good Food and Nice "Proper" Bar attached to hotel

Originally visited the Bar attached to the hotel - "The Bothy". This is a good traditional pub both in terms of layout and atmosphere. Good Local ales on as well as the traditional drinks you would expect. Decided to go there again for dinner and reserved a table - this turned out to be in the hotel lounge along with the other hotel guests. Good Choice of dishes on the menu and food very well prepared. This seems to be a well attended, popular location for an evening meal in Kirkwall.
