We stayed in 4 different hotels during our Costa Rican adventure. This one was the priciest and based on the wonderful reviews, I had high expectations. If I am honest, this place did not meet my expectations based on price/value. The rooms are cool, the thermal river is magical, but the service was a bit lacking. I felt I was in the US and not in a foreign country and the value was not there 100% for me personally. It was not the staff’s fault! They are such hard working individuals, but it seems that maybe management needs a little improvement. The staff was working so hard, but inefficient. This hotel is missing special service touches that make a hotel unique and special. I suspect it used to have this in previous years. I did not realize that the hotel would have day pass guests daily as well. My favorite thing was the yoga class in the morning, the views from the restaurant, and the thermal river. If returning to Costa Rica, I would probably skip this stop. Super cool place but did not leave a lasting impression.

Found this place after booking a private custom tour with Tico Tours.
First was a wonderful lunch (we arrived at about 1140 in the morning). The food was wonderful and the bar was well-stocked.
Then the Zipline Canyon experience. Holy cow!!!!! You meet your guides (ask for Christian and El Loco Martinez), get suited up, and a 5 minute walk to the first line. There were 13 platforms total, each zipline was at least a 20-30 second leg over an unbelievably beautiful river through a canyon, and one pendulum swing between 2 platforms. It was by far the best zipline views we have seen to date. The guides are very friendly, knowledgeable, very safe, and just plain fun!
1. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER. It got HOT while we were there. Don’t get dehydrated during the fun.
2. There is some climbing to do- vertical climbing using pre-installed Metal rungs in the rock. Make sure you are able to climb at least 20 feet upwards with all of your gear on.
3. Trust the guides. Good Lord they were a blast!
4. TIP THE GUIDES!!! They earn it every day and the experience was worth it!
After the zipline we went into the thermal
Pool, then did a volcanic mud wash with a dip in the thermal river.
The mud wash is not a bath- you go down into the canyon (steep walk down and up- be warned) and smear yourselves with the mud. Let it dry, then get into the river. It was awesome! The water is very warm, the canyon is extremely serene and peaceful.
Please see the photos and videos I added. Christian the Guide asked for my camera and took beautiful videos and photos, and our Tico Tours guide Marco (Tico Tours is who we used to get this custom package- HIGHLY recommended!!!) stood on higher platforms and also took photos and videos of us and sent them to us at the end.
Great getaway in the middle of the jungle

1 - Fly into Liberia, approx 1 hours drive
2 - DO not drive from San Jose. The construction and traffic will drive you crazy (6hours)
3 - Hotel rooms are a little above basic but ecologically friendly and have everything you need. The beds are spectacular
4 - Activities - All available at the hotel and very well managed with very enjoyable guides
5 - Thermals and Pools - These are a must visit and they are included in your package
6 - Bar and Restaurant - A little under par with the service. Service fell as staff were not very well attentive (maybe understaffed due to COVID)
7 - Food - Disappointing to say the least. Opt for a few of the appetizers. Mains were disappointing and bland
A Wellness Paradise

We drove through the heart of Costa Rica before arriving at the most wonderful place, Rio Perdido. Weaving in and out of farms full of cows and horses, dogs, locals and of course the most beautiful mountains, a volcano and a sunset! We were greeted by a security guard who checked for our reservation and showed us where to park. When we arrived at the parking lot, we were once again greeted by a hotel employee to take us by cart to the main building. (Which was not that far.) We washed our hands at the outdoor sink and walked down the stairs to the open air lobby and restaurant, with a gift shop to the side. Among the staff were monkeys and birds in the lush and beautiful forest and iguanas running away on the ground. This place was paradise. The views were breathtaking. And there weren't many guests around. We met Christan who got us water and sat us down to explain the area, activities and so much more. He could not have been more kind, helpful and happy to have us! We were again taken by cart to our bungalow. The bungalow was nothing my partner and I have ever experienced. We splurged on the Center Bungalow King (A MUST) which was all black inside with natural elements, with an outdoor shower and terrace! An experience they call Passive Wellness: to focus and take in the elements of the outdoors. This was nothing we ever experienced and beyond our expectations. Although you can always call for a ride we decided to take a trail from our Bungalow to the main lobby. The main lobby is where you eat all your meals. The only other option was eating at the bar pool. This is where we mostly had our lunches. Once you have one El Charo made by the very talented Diego you can't NOT go back. His passion for his cocktails were obvious. The food presentations were impressive, and the passion was seen there too. Every day we did something different: hiked, swam in the natural hot springs, thermal river, drank, spa day, went tubing or zip lined. I did yoga every morning which was above the canyon so you can hear the water below. One morning we had an entire family of monkeys swinging in the trees above. It was magical. Rio Perdido made us feel safe, welcomed and abundant. One day we left to explore and drive around. Another day we drove to the beach. We also met some guests that were there for the day with a guest pass. They said they did some research to find places that offer passes. I told them they were lucky to find Rio Perdido. The staff were so happy to have us! We felt like an extension of the Rio Perdido family. We even met the owners and they couldn't have been nicer! Christopher was also someone that always seemed to find us and make sure we were happy with our stay. But the entire staff was amazing! Notable Mentions:Never once were we told to wear our masks but the staff all did. Not crowded until the weekend but still didn't feel overwhelming. The Wifi was strong. Breakfast was great, never needed to order anything extra. Safety was top notch.

Pinch me. Does this place really exist? No picture can do service to this amazing outdoor paradise. It is a beautiful huge outdoor wonderland with a truly natural hot river. We were alone many times that we visited the river. The face mud made us both look years younger. Restaurant was delicious and staff was so attentive. We hope we can return. Oh, and the rooms. All are luxurious but we ended up favoring the smaller brighter one. This is primarily because they were in slightly less deep woods so it was easier to see wildlife. Bands of monkeys come by in the a.m. and around 4:30 pm. They are right in front of your face! This place is the best of its kind on earth.
