Incredible Experience at Sabas Beach Resort

Reviewed 23 february, 2022

My boyfriend and I were very impressed by Sabas Beach Resort. I will say it is not a Cabo or Cancun "resort" experience but for actual travelers we were so pleased. We stayed in La Libertad for a few nights and then up to Santa Ana. This was our final spot we stayed for 3 nights. At first we did have a little bit of a hard time finding it. It's off the beaten path a bit in San Blas. It's at the very end of the road. As soon as we arrived we were checked in at the bar it was around 2pm. The owner of the resort was there with Abby. It took a few minutes we were supposed to have a room facing the road but they offered us a room facing the pool/beach. While we waited they made us Pina Coladas and we sat listening to the ocean using the great wifi to catch up with home. The room was clean. There are a few of odds and ends that need to be updated and fixed but nothing major that affected our stay or we really cared about. First night we walked the beach at sunset and watched kids play soccer. Then we had beers under the stars at the resort. Sabas is probably about 10 minutes from El Tunco. We absolutely love going there and ate away from the resort for all our meals so can't comment on the food but they do have menus. We also rented a car so we had transportation but the owner did offer if we need rides I think they have a van/bus. Abby was always at the bar so kind and greeted us with a genuine smile every day. Nobody spoke english except for the owner. I can't remember his name but we referred to him as El Jefe. He was great! He helped us with our Coivd tests because we had some issues with Whatsapp and he was friendly and accommodating the whole stay. One thing to note: we put all of our drinks "on the room tab" and truthfully we thought they would just add it to the credit card on file. We did tip Abbey in cash. Our flight was super early we had to leave at 5AM and no lights were on in the building when we were leaving. Only a security guy was available. He informed us in Spanish that we needed to pay for the bar things. It was all just written on a paper and he used a calculator to add it all together. It was accurate but we just thought it would go to the card and it took quite a bit of time to add it together. We really needed to catch our flight so we just gave him cash and we left. Hopefully it went to the right place but we should have confirmed the night before that it was settled with the bar. Overall we were very pleased with our stay. If you're looking for an all inclusive luxurious Cancun stay this is not the vibe but if you're looking for an authentic Central American EXPERIENCE then I HIGHLY recommend this resort.

Sabas Beach Resort

Reviewed 8 february, 2020

Great little hotel at the very end of the San Blas strip, with a surprisingly good menu (great seafood). $106 with tax for two queen beds, AC, Cable, etc. Nice pool area and easy access to the beach. Knowledgeable staff and secure premises.

The worse customer service!

Reviewed 4 january, 2020

I booked this hotel the same day I got to San Blas via Expedia, when I arrived, the receptionist informed me that they didn’t have any more rooms. In a very rude and uncaring way she told that I had to call Expedia CS for help and walked away. I was on the phone trying to get a room for almost two hours, receptionist kept on chatting with her co workers outside the reception area. They tried to contact her but she wouldn’t pick up the phone. After 2 hours of waiting, she told me that the manager called her and we could go to another hotel. 3 hotels later, we found a place to sleep in. It was too late to do anything. Awful place.

Home Stay NOT resort

Reviewed 12 june, 2019

I am absolutely disgusted in the unwelcomed stay I have had. I took my partner here trying to find some privacy and happy to pay top dollar to do so. Our "private" king suite Ocean room was nothing more than a home stay with rubbish dump and sewage view. Told we would have hot water and the resort to our selves yet we get back to find the place shut up for a private family gathering payed for with no doubt my money. Kids naked screaming and messing up the foyer and the pool area and spa full with locals like some backpackers or home stay. No service for food or bar for us yet they are having a blast on my coin in what is meant to be a private resort. After asking I was told first it was open to public then told it was just workers family then told it was the owners family and we could use the facilities after 8pm when they leave. Do not stay here it is and over priced home stay with rude family. Not like you would find with an actual home stay. And for the record..... I love home stays When you want then Not when you pay $100usd a night in el Salvador for privacy and resort life. AVOID THERE ARE ACTUAL RESORTS NEAR BY WE WILL TRY NEXT TIME...

Perfectly lovely but listed prices far too high

Reviewed 9 december, 2018

This very local place is simple and delightful. The rooms are clean. They are also huge. The pool is small but perfectly formed and the hotel is indeed right on the beach. The whole beach suffers from a surfeit of street dogs (they bark but are not remotely agressive) and some rubbish. It's not dirty - just the odd pieces of rubbish which could be anywhere. We had a huge room with our own private terrace area out front with table and chairs. Right by pool. The beach is huge but you can certainly see the sea from the pool area and, from the raised palapa where you can eat if you want, there is a great view. The menu is simple. A bit over priced but nothing too dreadful. We worried it would be noisy in our rooms but not at all. Very quiet and calm. All rooms have AC as well as ceiling fans and there were no mosquitoes. Big shower room. Shampoo/soap etc are here. Plenty of towels and more when we asked for them. The staff here are delightful. And they do their best. They helped us with luggage, were happy to negotiate the price down for the room (from 150 - what they told us when we arrived - to 80 - which is what it was listed for in hotels.com - this did not include breakfast). I sense the owners are rather cheap and this shows. Staff are as accomodating and kind as they can be. Completely honest too. And they want the best for their guests, to it's up to us, the guests, to try to convince the owners to change their ways a bit. Here is what needs fixing: 1. WIFI needs to extend to the bedrooms. In the room it was non existent. 2. Rooms need some maintenance. Loo seat broken, for example. 3. Get rid of all plastic - no straws, no plastic bottles or coffee stir sticks. I have a water bottle with me and they nearly refused to fill it from their filtered water jug. They wanted me to buy water in plastic bottles. And I am simply not prepared to do that. Ever. Especially in a place on the ocean in a country that prides itself on saving turtles. To the owners: travellers are discerning and you should make more of an effort to be "green". This is becoming a source of competitive advantage and I am not the only traveller that would make a positive choice for a hotel that was plastic free and tried to be sustainable.
