This beautiful and unique hostel offers travellers a different option on how they stay in the adventurous city of Lisbon. The property is located in heart of the historic centre of Lisbon in the Bairro Alto District in a converted palace. The hostel has a wonderful view of the city and Tagus River. The property has two restaurants on site and provides a guest only bar/lounge with film screenings and performances from local musicians and breakfast is served at The Decadente Restaurant & Bar . The dorm rooms are contemporary in design with comfortable bedding allowing a good night's rest, compli...More details

This Hostel should disclose that the gorgeous rooftop area pictured in the listing is not actually part of the hostel and not available outside of Thurs - Saturday night. They charge extra for the bottom bunk even when not in use, forcing guests to instead climb up to a third level bed with very inaccessible entry (extremely steep stairs, no hand rail..). The overall facilities are cheap and of very poor quality relative to the price point they are charging. They also play very loud music right outside of the bedrooms past 11pm. The location is good and the staff were friendly but relative to many other fantastic hostel offerings in Lisbon this place leaves a lot to be desired.
Great Hostel for a cheap price!

The hostel is located at a beautiful spot right across from a great view of the city. The hostel is located not too far away from the city center and the clubbing streets. The service is great and all the staff members are lovely people. The rooms are spacious and have bunk beds with three levels, and dressers or drawers where you can place your personal items, these can be locked if you want. The sanitary space is not too big, but all the necessities are there, showers, toilets, sinks and even a hairdresser. The common space or lounge is a nice calm space, with a freezer and a refrigerator for everyone to use. Sound travels easily within the hostel but I did not have any bad nights there. The breakfast is great and costs a reasonable price. I highly recommend this hostel!
a perfect place regarding service, rooms and location for people who love a vibrant place

After 4 Covid-related delays - we had planned the trip already in February 2020 - we finally made it to Lisboa. The first thing to mention is the incredible reservation support we received from the “The Independente Hostel & Suites”. Our original reservation was a fixed, non- refundable booking. But the hotel decided to give us credit and move our reservation 3 times. No hassle, no problems – just plain good service and friendliness. We have been working and travelling around the world for more than 50 Years – this experience is one of the most enjoyable we have ever had. Now to the hotel itself. We had a wonderful room in the second floor of the suites building (adjacent to the hostel) facing the “Miradouro Sao Pedro de Alcantara”. This small outlook overlooks the city towards the Santana district, with direct views to the “Castelo de Sao George” and close to the “Ascensor da Gloria” – a funicular connecting the Bairro Alto with the Rossio. This fact is important, because the Bairro Alto and the Miradouro itself are some of the liveliest places in Lisbon. So – travelers who need it quiet at night should either: book a room that faces the garden or buy ear plugs to keep the noise away – which can be heavy because of the partying that goes on during the night at the Miradouro. We (and we are both in the 60+ generation) decided for earplugs and open windows. It worked well. Breakfast was in the adjacent hostel - it was a pleasurable surprise and very healthy. Good coffees and always a selection of eggs and other additional goodies. In our case it was included in the room fee. What we also liked a lot was the young crowd around us – I think we have been at least 2.5 times older that the rest of the folks around us. This added to the joy of our trip enormously. The people at the hotel were exceptional helpful and friendly – one example: When we first realized that our room was impacted by the noise from the Miradouro the staff went out of their way to get us a quieter room. Taking into account, that the place was fully booked, this was an incredible effort. But – as said before – we decided for earplugs and did not move. Another pleasant experience was dinner at the inhouse restaurant. Very innovative cuisine for an astonishing reasonable price – combined with impeccable service. In summary: we had a 5-star experience in a 2-star hotel. Compared to the roughly 500+ hotels we stayed in globally in the past, this experience has beaten them all in the price/performance category!!! Whenever we are in Lisboa – this will be our place. We highly recommend it.
Excellent and enjoyable 2 night stay

Stayed there with a group of friends for 2 nights! The reception and generally the staff of the hostel were incredibly friendly and helpful. The hostel was clean and tidy and had everything you need. In a very nice location, 5 minutes walk from the heart of Lisbon and right in front of a beautiful square with a great panoramic view over the city.
A beautiful hostel in a really central location

I had a great time on a 3 day research trip to decide whether I would like to take Portuguese as part of my degree. I visited Sintra and Cascais which were easily accessed due to the 5 minute walk to the Rossio train station and Resturadores metro stop. The hostel is really very pretty, I felt welcomed by staff and very safe given the Covid situation. Sometimes noise is a bit of an issue especially when the Portugal national football team are playing and winning but this could be said for any city hostel.
