December 2021 Disappointing Hotel

We booked a twin room, it was on the 4th floor. The bathroom was beautiful (room 1419) but there was no power in the shower which was annoying. The room had 2 windows, one overlooked someone else's bedroom and it was impossible to see out of the other window unless we had used a step ladder! The heating for the room was adjustable via thermostat on the wall, but that didn't appear to work and it wasn't particularly warm. We immediately went back down to reception to ask for a change of room. For various reasons, we were unable to change rooms, there was not much interest coming from the lady behind reception. The room was supposed to have a fridge. It did but we had to crawl on our hands and knees to pull it out to plug it in. It didn't work. Again we asked at reception for someone to fix it. No-one came as it never worked in the 2 days we were there. We stayed at the hotel for dinner the first night, but the menu was extremely disappointing, with only approximately 4/5 things to choose from. We chose fish and chips as the only option for us, it was good but by this time we were a bit underwhelmed by everything. Drinks were expensive at £9 per glass of wine. A warning about the car parking at NCP. Take a ticket at the barrier and present it at hotel reception when checking out. Were told by NCP staff that if we had used the QR code at the barrier, we would have had no discount from the hotel. It is a beautiful hotel but we won't be going back.

As a local businessman, I have used this hotel for a while now for various lunches an meetings. I recently attended a function here in November an the first thing I noticed was alot of new staff faces, the places appears to have a high turnover of staff members, which in any line of business is not good. The food at our function was fantastic, staff members were very courteous and helpful although they appeared very understaffed they maintained professional at all times. Our room was lovely although for the price paid it could do with some TLC. Having been local to the city I love the hotel, the architecture, the bar upstairs is very well presented but yet the hotel particularly the restaurant does have a bad reputation, which is such a shame as it has the potential to be amazing. Maybe if the hotel could keep a consistent staffing team an get some continuity among staff. I'm aware of the owner an whilst a very successful business man in other fields unfortunately hospitality does not appear one of them.

Would not recommend this hotel to anyone, me and my wife booked this hotel last February for our anniversary, we got to the hotel all good went out came back to go to bed remove the blanket to find dead bee’s in the bed not bad for been full cleaned and no heating at all. Second night wedding on the room below our room was not informed was told music will finish at 11.00 so didn’t say anything until 11.15 when spoke to reception and was told the party will be on until 12.30 and put the phone down on me. We got moved to a new room at 11.30 at night. To say the most to top it off went for lunch in the restaurant and the bread was hard. So for a good weekend a way turned into a nightmare.not the way we wanted to spend our wedding anniversary.

50th Birthday Surprise for me from my wife.

Hotel beautiful and staff just fabulous, We stayed 2 nights for my 50th birthday with my wife, we went down for breakfast around 9am and the continental breakfast was lovely if a little sparse, the home made yogurt if wasn’t so tart it would have been lovely, may I suggest a little icing sugar to reduce the acidity, However the cooked breakfast was terrible, the eggs were extremely greasy and rubbery, the sausage I couldn’t have due to my onion allergy, the bacon was tooth destroying it was so hard, scrambled egg very sloppy and the mushrooms were way over cooked, beans were dry, the rest of the breakfast was the same, my wife went down for Breakfast and she said it was just as bad and that was at 8:30am, I’m disabled and it’s a struggle on a morning to do anything so I wasn’t prepared to put myself in pain again for something I’d expect to see in low quality hotel. The spa was lovely it does need re tiling in places in both pools I scratched my foot on a loose bit of tiling in the hydrotherapy pool, Overall a lovely stay we will be back but maybe go to a cafe for breakfast thanks again for the rest of the stay.

Surprisingly quirky and enjoyable

Good location in central Liverpool near the shops, bars and restaurants. Easy to drive to (with sat nav) and parking is two blocks away in an NCP at a sensible price (£12) for a city centre location. There's a drop off space outside the hotel but beware of the traffic wardens that were handing out tickets both when we arrived and left so don't take any chances. Nice check in and room was large and unusual in shape and had a large bathroom with separate bath and shower. The hotel is nicely decorated with lots of quirky features. Not quite sure why this is branded as a Doubletree as it seems more interesting than most and could easily be a Hilton 'Curio Collection' hotel. Breakfast room was small and the food slightly better than the usual Hilton breakfast with fresh berries amongst other things. We stayed just one night (or football) and would stay here again.
