The Lord Nelson Hotel

Stayed here for 1 night visiting family. Room was very cosy and clean. On arrival was greeted by the night porter kyle who was very polite and welcoming. He also helped me upto my room with my bags. Breakfast was delicious. So much choice on the menu. Was served by vicky who was very nice and polite. Staff are very friendly. Views are so beautiful and lots to sight. Looking forward to my next stay

would like to draw your attention to this hotel. Bitterly disappointed!! Upon entering hotel all I could smell was stale cigarette smoke. The photos did not compare to the actual rooms. Funny smell !! Wet towel on floor. No toiletries at all was to ask at reception.handed a remote as i walked in never had that before!! The room was very cold and when i tried to put the heater on it wouldn't work, nor would the tv. When i informed the staff I was brought a very small fan heater. It was suggested that I move room before i could do so they had to check if the heater worked in that room!! The house keeper said there were a few rooms with broken heaters!! When i said i wasn't happy i was told "nothing i can do about it" This hotel already cost me £125, more than I expected to pay due to hidden costs!! I was on a special weekend with my two daughters and was thoroughly disappointed so much so that I felt I had to move to another hotel, adding cost to my weekend!! This hotel appealed to me as the photos made it look really nice and comfortable, with a great location!!The opposite in actual fact to what it was!!

Very pleasant stay. Ok the decor is a little tired and shabby and a long haul to the top with no lift, but the room is warm and comfortable with decent beds. Perfect for our trip to the o2 academy. Breakfast included is a bonus. Staff couldn't have been more helpful. Everyone we met was polite and cheerful, the night watchman made us tea when we came in in the wee small hours, cold and tired. Not posh but good place to crash after a great night out.would recommend booking parking at liner open air carpark round corner. Will use again.

Stayed one night to see Tim Minchin at Theatre. Travelled by train. Very very convenient location. 1 minute stroll from Lime Street Station to both hotel & theatre. Impossible to get lost. Great for a flying visit. Staff friendly. Room clean. Only negative...They have posters inside the hotel advertising the sale of Diet Coke. Unfortunately despite me checking verbally before I went out they don't sell it. By the time I got back it was too late for me to go out and search for it so I wasn't too happy re this. Wouldn't stop me booking again I'll just take my own drinks next time.

I spent three nights at the Lord Nelson on a business trip. My initial impressions on walking in was that it was more of a hostel than a hotel (it's not, it's a hotel). Upon checking in they handed me the remote control for the TV in the room, which I found a disconcerting. Do guests often steal from here? I'll start with the cons first: 1) The decor is incredibly tired, it just does not feel like a hotel. 2) All the heating is electric, but it didn't work in my room although they did supply a fan heater. It still meant the bathroom was cold. 3) The corridors stank of smoke and the room smelled of damp and mould. 4) There are home printed signs everywhere, it looked so unprofessional. 5) No soap or toiletries in the rooms at all. Given that such things are really not expensive this seems to be either extreme penny pinching or they don't trust their guests. Toiletries are available from the reception, but why should you have to ask? 6) The hotel bar is on the ground floor, on the final night I stayed people were drinking, singing, and shouting in there until 4am. I know this because the room I had was directly above and I could hear everything, so no sleep for me. The people in the room next to me were awake for most of the night too as I could hear them, I expect the noise kept them up too. 7) The floor of the ensuite was tiled, many of these were broken and in places the grouting has clearly come away. Given how humid the room can get due to the shower I would not like to see what was under them but I expect this was the source of the smell. 8) Had to pay in cash for the room, the card machine was "broken"... The pros: 1) It's located next to Lime Street train station 2) The staff were very friendly 3) The rooms were relatively clean, I guess you can only work with what you've got. 4) The bed was very comfortable
