More about the hotel
DO NOT USE THIS HOTEL AS THEY REFUSE REFUNDS
I booked to go here on 23rd of June 2020 - I paid for this in full in Jan 2020. My booking was non-refundable. I am asking for a FULL refund which Im entitled too. Under force majeure and the consumer act if one of the 2 parties, do not fulfil their part of the booking then they are in breach of contract. This hotel has been closed and will not be open on my date of arrival so they havnt kept up their part of the booking. Also force majeure takes precedence over whether the booking is non-refundable or not. So by LAW they should offer either a voucher, or a full refund. Im asking for a refund and they are refusing which is a disgrace. They are deliberately withholding my monies back using the guise of "its a non-refundable booking". Doesnt matter. So I didnt even get to the hotel but if I was you I wouldnt book with them. Absolutely terrible customer service and Im taking this further. I dont want anyone going through the stress and worry Im going through.
Our third stay...
Another lovely stay at the Draycott last month, our third in three years. We have tried other hotels in between time (including the recently opened Vintry and Mercer) but they are soulless. The Draycott is warm and friendly and so are the staff. I don't understand the previous comment about limited breakfast options. There are many classic English breakfast options on the menu. If you don't want a traditional breakfast don't stay in a traditional hotel, try a large soulless hotel with a big buffet. Our breakfasts were delicious and prepared with care (I am very fussy about my food) and the young waitress looking after us was engaging and efficient. Our room was our favourite yet and we will request this on our next stay. Some of the decor needs refreshing in the public areas. The stairs look particularly shabby but there is a painting program in place. My only comment for improvement is on some discrepancy in information given by the reservation staff. This hotel, at its usual rates, is above our budget. We are only able to stay here if we find a third party deal. When I rang in December 2018 to ask if there were any prices to match what we had paid the first year we stayed in 2017, the reservation lady I spoke to was very helpful and, after checking with her manager, she offered me the same price as a third party deal that was currently on which I had not spotted. This time, in December 2019, I rang reservations again but a different reservation lady told me that there were no currently no third party deals on (not true) and that the hotel never match any third party offers (also not true given my experience the previous year). She truly was obstructive, telling me how the prices of running a hotel were going up and she didn't even ask the dates we were looking to stay in January to see what price they could offer us until I pressed her. Needless to say we did not book directly with the hotel this time and booked through the third party that had an offer on. This is a shame as we do prefer to book directly with hotels when we can. Nonetheless we will return.
Traditional English hospitality
Absolutely loved this place I was upgraded to the Shaw suite which had a fire place and access to the gardens.. everything from checking in to checking out was great.. you’re treated like a queen.. The staff are amazing the food was delicious the room was the best I’ve staid in in London you get old fashioned English hospitality which is lacking in most of the other hotels in london.. it truelly was lovely in every way. Thankyou
A nice stay
A nice stay. All good. My main comment is about the limited breakfast. So you dont have lots of options, very limited, otherwise you have to pay. But the room was very clean and nice staff, good location.
Horrible afternoon tea experience
Appalling service!! I’d booked a table at the Draycott hotel for afternoon tea and when we turned up we found out that our table had been given to hotel customers who - we were later told - have priority over all bookings even if they don’t make any reservation! One of the waiters asked his colleague if our table was ready and the colleague answered that it wasn’t and shrugged when asked why.... We had to wait half an hour for a table to be set downstairs, and finally had our afternoon tea in a room that looked like a regular dining room and nothing like the nice library room that you can see on the images. The food was ok but not amazing, and if you expect it to be presented on a 3 tier plate, again you’ll be disappointed.. It was served on regular plates. The final straw was when we asked for a breakdown of the bill. It took 10 minutes to the waiter AND his manager to print out what was eventually one line corresponding to the total amount. What a joke! Such a disappointing experience created by one of the least professional services I’ve ever seen. I will never go again and shame on Mantis for having such bad employees.
