NCP Car Park an embarrassment
After ringing the hotel to get advice on how to book a car park space for the night we were staying in the car park below, the staff explained that it was an NCP car park and they could not make a booking. They advised me how to do so ie via NCP. On arrival, there was a warning notice taped to a door entering the hotel to say that the car park was high risk with break in's and damage. Apparently, there was an incident every week, so we were told. It is not staffed and is wide open to the street. Homeless people sometimes sleep down there. Therefore, we got our son to come and drive our car away. We had to pay for the full 24 hours for the car park even though we only used it for the four hours which triggered the full charge The hotel should warn its customers in advance, when NCP could have no complaint, and NCP may as a result redouble their efforts to work with the police to make this car park safe. It is not acceptable to be only warned when you walk into the hotel. The hotel is very satisfactory in other ways, although the modernisation is giving it a cold, subdued look in my opinion because of the decoration colours chosen. They do not warn you that, if they give you one of their modernised rooms, it will not have a bath. The reception duty manager was obliging at moving me to get a room with a bath even though it was 2300hrs. Again, customers should be warned and asked if they would like a room with bath . It is a poor recent move to assume that a bath is not of interest to customers. I have said my visit was on "business" because I booked to be near the hospital where I was booked in on the next morning.
Good location but rooms are hot
This hotel has many positive aspects for a start the cost we paid under £50 for a night and it’s London so that’s great. Rooms are quiet basic pretty dated but clean for the most part I did find a bunch of black hairs in the bath plug which was disgusting, it was clearly an oversight as the room in general was clean but it was off putting. The pillows are firm but you can request soft pillows however the beds are small. Due to covid it’s really just a room you are getting, they have a room service menu in operation. And a Sainsbury’s a few minutes away if you want a few bits. The aircon in the room was awful and seemed to be some kind of eco function as it would switch off every few minutes. The rooms get extremely hot must be super insulated. I give this hotel an average rating due to the air con not operating well and the cleanliness in some parts being missed.
Great service
The hotel and room is a bit dated however it’s in an absolutely great location so you wouldn’t expect to spend much time there anyways. When we arrived we had issues getting into the room as the key wouldn’t unlock the door. I went to reception and Kristina (I think this was her name) cut us a new key. This did not work either, so as she suggested I gave her a call from one of the corridor phones and she came up. As she was approaching I tried the key again and the door opened miraculously, to this day I believe she has some sort of internal WiFi on her. She was lovely about it though, coming up all the way, and still gave us two drinks vouchers, which wasn’t necessary. Having worked in the industry previously, this is a absolutely great service and I do wish everyone would be at this level. We had a great trip and we felt very taken care of in the hotel. Absolutely will stay again.
Stiflingly hot room
Only a double bed, which was soft. Handle broke off bathroom door. Dated. No herbal tea...only bog standard tea. The room was stiflingly hot...despite aircon and then opening window, we just couldn’t get comfortable. Hardly slept. On the positive side, staff were kind, polite and helpful, bringing a jug of iced water and a sheet.
Lovely hotel
Really nice place to stay, lovely friendly staff, and very convenient for sightseeing. It was very clean and felt safe. Breakfast had to be ordered the night before and then collected from the restaurant. Everything came in a bag but it was faultless....and I’m a fussy person! We were lucky enough to be able to eat it in the bar area so it was no problem at all.
