A Bloom With A View

Within easy walking distance of public transport, this city centre hotel is ideal for all attractions. The staff were friendly and gave a warm welcome upon arrival. They also greeted us whenever we returned to the hotel after exploring London. The room, though a standard double room, was spacious enough for the pair of us. Complimentary tea, coffee or hot chocolate in the room. The small biscuit was also a nice touch. Yes, there is external noise - being in the city centre location it is, but the windows did a good job at reducing much of the sound. Breakfast was plentiful, with a choice of option available.

Read the reviews so wasn't expecting much from the rooms as it seemed like and old building and lots had mentioned rooms being small and cramped. But didn't mind as long as it was clean.
We arrived at 6pm on Friday evening, check in was quick and simple, lady on reception was polite and efficient.
Was placed on the 5th floor. small room at the back with a sloped ceiling, cosy but ok. Like others had mentioned, the room was quite dusty, like it hadn't been used in a while, I had to give it a quick dust down but everything else was fine.
No other issue with the room or sleep quality as was quiet but in the morning we could hear the next door talking through the walls, glad it wasn't at night, paper thin walls.
Breakfast was very disappointing.
We arrived down at 9am, lady asked us where we would like to sit and showed us where the breakfast was.
Unfortunately, all the breakfast items were dry/hard and inedible as they had been sitting there too long under the heat lamp and the warmer on the bottom had dried and hardened the items also.
The sausages were very burnt and skin was so hard l could barely cut through them, the hash browns were dried out and shrivelled up, no potato substance left, just a dried hard outer skin.
The bread for the toast were all dry and curled up at the edges, some sort of cover would have been appropriate.
We asked if it would be possible to get a fried egg, the lady went into the kitchen to ask, then came out and never got back to us, we never asked again.
Very disappointed with the breakfast, was expecting more from a 4* establishment.
Having worked in the food business for numerous years, l personally would not have served or even left them items out. Food always needs to be checked regularly, especially buffet food, they need a to be out for a set time before being replaced. They should never have been in that condition.

Spent two nights recently for a weekend break, excellent from check in to check out. All the staff were happy and friendly making us feel at home, room was compact but sufficient for our needs, nice area of London close to Euston station and within easy walking distance to lots of attractions. Would certainly recommend this hotel and would not hesitate to book again for any future trips to London, a great big thank you to everyone at the Mercure Bloomsbury.
Dirty room and rude maid

Location was excellent for an event I was attending. Check-in was easy in a sort location - although the key card didn't work and the rest of the hotel was a lot less smart!
Room was fine, as expected for an old building in Central London. Not huge but fine, and clean enough. Rather shabby and in need of some TLC, also very dusty as if nobody had stayed in there for months - which is fine but it should have been cleaned! Putting the shower on brought lots of dust and hair down which was grim.
In the morning, despite having a do not disturb sign on the door, I came out of the shower at about 9.20am to the maid repeatedly rattling the door, banging on the door and asking when I was leaving. Was I leaving soon? Check out wasn't until noon. That was really poor. And when I mentioned this to the receptionist, they just sighed and said I wasn't the first to complain about this.
I went to a nearby Pret for breakfast, so didn't eat here.
Would look elsewhere for a hotel next time. Lots of hotels to choose from in this area in a similar price range.
Disappointed (but I hope my experience was usual)

Unfortunately I did not have a very good experience here, but I hope I was unlucky.
First, the good points. The hotel location is decent and central, just a few minutes from Russell Square tube line and bus routes. The room I had been given was a very good size and at the end of a corridor, away from the lifts, as I had requested. It was also at the back of the hotel, so although there was no view (fine for me, I wasn’t there for that) it was extremely quiet, which I appreciated. I also had a very nice welcome letter from the manager, acknowledging my status and with a couple of snacks.
What wasn’t so good was that as I was checking in late in the day the bar had already closed (at 9pm) so I was told I’d have to wait until the next morning to get my complimentary drinks (I’d have thought grabbing a soft drink or beer from the bar to take to the room would have been possible, but I wasn’t in the mood for making the suggestion and nothing was offered). The bathroom was small and in need of refurbishment and the bed was one of the softest I have come across in any hotel, which I didn’t like. The worst problem only revealed itself in the morning when I went to take a shower, only to discover that it was broken. I suppose I should be grateful that water still came out of it, but head was broken and would only direct water at the wall, so the only way to direct water onto your body was by holding the shower in one hand. The situation was far from ideal and had I realised the night before I would have insisted on a room change. I did inform front desk on check out, but I am extremely surprised the problem had not been picked up by housekeeping. I do hope the hotel do not assign the room to anyone else until the problem has been fixed.
I appreciate a soft mattress may appeal to some and the quietness at the back of the hotel was great. I would stay here again, but I’d make sure the shower was working first.
