Walking out of PubLove, an African man asked me to stop. Of course I stopped to ask him what he needed and he told me I could buy anything from him—that he could sell me anything. I immediately told him that I wasn’t interested and that I’m clean. He lunged at me. The hostel staff asked him to leave. Loud, noisy, 12 bed rooms….can be hard to sleep if you meet the wrong people. Extremely dirty bathrooms. The showers and the toilets had an odor to them. Not the best experience here.

Stayed for 2 weeks. In that time, someone stole a camera and I was evicted from my room to a room one floor above because of a party of 11 Scottish men - exclusive room occupation is not in their policy, and was grossly unreasonable. Room 2 was a 12 person room occupied by 4 people including myself - I grew to befriend those guys and we went out to town together. We were all kicked out. A more appropriate management would be to break up incoming party into 8 + 3, allocate the 8 to room 2 and allocate the 3 to another room. One of the 4 guys kicked out were staying there for months on work, and at the time, was working a 12 hour shift. The individual managing it was Megan - she's straightforward but not approachable or friendly. All other bar staff were great, and the chefs - Daniel and Matt (?) are cool. Clean rooms, cleaned at least once per week. Burgers and chips are delicious. Social atmosphere. Imperial War Museum near by. Lambeth North station 1 min walk away, Waterloo about 5 mins away. Difficult to find food after 10pm in the area. There's a small concrete garden area with heaters, and luggage storage. Recommend a 1/2 week stay here, close to central London. Cheap rooms - £100 / week. Fast WiFi throughout bar + hostel. Lockers available in rooms - padlock recommended. Toilets rarely have soap. 3 showers per floor, soap included. Reasonable.
The best burger I've had for years

Fantastic quality beef and everything else! Obviously freshly made, hot and great flavour combinations. Friendly staff and a nice outside courtyard to chill. Can't recommend enough. So much better than other places in the area.
One of the Best Hostels in London

You won't find many better hostels for the price in London. It's comfortable, clean and in a great location. But what really makes this place is the atmosphere it has created. It feels like a real hostel where the staff care about your visit. The 24 hour pub is a great place to meet people, with a good choice of beer too. Those working, especially Michael and Pablo (I didn't meet anybody else) were very friendly and always there for some advice or a friendly chat. This went a long way to make my stay pleasurable. After staying in several hostels in London before, I will definitely be returning to this one.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Threw two 18 year olds out in a thunder storm without a room because they’d been transferred here froM the rose and crown ! ! They had no money as the rose and crown has taken payment and then realised the room was flooded !!! The Steam Engine refused to pick up the phone and ring The Rose and Crown and said “ do we look like we give rooms away for nothing, pay or leave “ The girls were 250 miles away from home!
